Terrible City Mileage

Hey everyone,

I have an 02 Tl Base with 57k miles, and I have been checking my MPG for the past few fillups and it is miserably bad...I am getting between 11-12 mpg in the city. I drive a lot of short distances, but I drive very conservatively and old-man like, so a lead foot isnt the issue. I know short distance driving can lessen my mileage but not to the hummer level I am currently at. I havent noticed any performance issues either.

a few things probably worth mentioning....
I spent 4 years filling my car up with 87 gas...because I was stupid and didnt know better, and only my last 8 fill ups have been with the proper 91 gas.
Right after I switched to 91 gas I notice when I start my car for the first time of the day I have to turn the key for a lot longer...before I just put the key in turned and it was on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I called the Acura dealers around me, and they all seemed uninterested into why I was getting terrible mileage. Thanks.

What type of maintenance have you done on the car? Plugs? ECU is probably relearning.

The car was certified when I bought it at 30k miles, and in the last 27k miles the only maintenance Ive done was taking it in for regular oil changes.

I read a post somewhere on this website that said the ECU should not be reset if you have added a fuel additive or switched to a higher octane gas...should I follow this and keep burning tanks of gas until the ECU is back, or should I reset the ECU and start over...

I am going to get routine service this week so Ill make sure the dealer checks the plugs and filters, but if not I would like to know what to with regards to the ECU. Thanks

Our cars suck on city mileage. Especially short trips. Nothing you can really do about that. If you want to reset teh ECU go for it. Pull the clock backup fuse for a few min then put it back in.
