Stereo Problems
Hi all!
I just purchased a 2001 Acura TL and the cassette player doesn't work. It seems as though the "cage" that the tape goes in is broken and I cannot get a tape (or in this case an adapter for my iPod) into the slot more than about half an inch. Also, the CD player doesn't play burned CD's at all. I've been burning CD's for a long time, and know how to burn them appropriately to play in a CD player. Most CD's it just tries to read, and then just spits it out. Once CD though, it will actually play, but not easily.
It clicks and whirrs as though it's trying to read the disc for at least five minutes. Then when it does play the song, I can't go to the next track, or to a previous track, because it will go through that five minute initilization phase. When it does finally start playing and gets to the end of one song, it will transfer to the next song with no trouble.
Anyway, I was looking in to getting it replaced and I've found a few on eBay from $60 - $180. I called the local dealership and they want $800 + $260 for installation.
My question to all you smart folks out there is how difficult is it to replace the entire audio deck in this car, and is there a guide (for free) somewhere on the net?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. The radio not playing burnt CD's is normal. Most of the 99-01s dont or have issues playing them. Some have found certain brands of cds that work(but may not work for others) Best bet is to look ofr a 02-03 6disk indash TL radio. Its plug and play.
For a ipod adapter get a blitzsafe adapter
Use this to remove the radio

Thanks for the info!
That adapter looks like it would be perfect, except I have a 1st Gen iPod. It just has a 6-pin firewire connection, and a headphone jack. It would be nice to get the RCA connections on the back, and run the cable into the arm rest or cup holder.
Is it even possible to buy an aftermarket deck for this car?
