If it comes back on, bring it in because there is a problem

Same thing has happened to me a couple times. Its weird because it always seems to happen really soon after I have one of those big maintenance jobs done... Anyway last time it happened a few days after I got the 45k mi service and the dealership guys told me if it comes on again they're going to need to change the OPS or something and that would take 600+ dollars. Friggin crooks. I'll just tell them to keep resetting that crap. I couldn't get that paperclip thing to work though... I tried for like 45 mins and gave up.

Yea it controls your air bag system. Im not 100% sure but if that light is on in an accident no airbags will come out. So it is important if you ask me. I looked at that link. And it is worth a try. I will try it this weekend I guess. Hopefully I wont blow nothing up. I wonder if Auto Zone can reset it. Dont they have that thing to do it with?
This thread confuses the hell out of me. I have several questions:
1. What does a "maintenance light" have to do with SRS anything? If you did the "hold select/reset and turn ignition on" procedure, please quickly do this:

2. If you aren't familiar with the meaning of SRS, why oh why mess with the system?
3. OPDS controls the "Side Airbag Off" light, are any of you confusing this with the SRS?
And finally here's a cold fact:
If the "SRS" light is on, your airbags and seatbelt pretensioners will not function. That's why getting it repaired ASAP should be a top priority.

I don't doubt that they'll correct it if it is something wrong with the airbags/pretensioners. But the sensor in the passenger seat yeilds a different light on the dash no? An orange one if I'm not mistaken (as when I throw some groceries on it, it'll flash sometimes) as an indicator that the weight is insufficient to deploy the airbags if necessary.
This SRS light is a red one nearby the other.

those are 2 different things, the orange one just telling you that its been deactivated due to seating position, the red one there is something wrong. "Usually" when the red one goes on its the opds.
The "Side Airbag Off" is triggered by OPDS when it detects someone is out of position in the passenger seat and the side airbag could hurt them. This light only means that the seat-mounted side airbag will not deploy. The dash-mounted front airbag will deploy anyway.
The "SRS" light is pretty easy to find. It is red and says "SRS". It can warn you of problems with anything in the system, even seatbelts. Kris knows more about this than I do, but I could have sworn that most of the SRS light problems in TLs were caused by seatbelt buckles.

Okay and what is the OPDS? I have no clue and yes my RED SRS light is still on. Mainly cause I haven't taken it in to get it checked out. Hopefully I can take it to autozone and the can possibly reset it for me... Yes?? NO?? Maybe??
The opds is the Occupant Position Detection sensor, its a common part that causes the red srs to come on. its failed on abunch of us. I posted a link on how to reset the SRS light. If you follow it and it comes back on there is something wrong and you need to bring it to a shop to get fixed

Not sure how true this is but I have heard that OPDS is susceptible to electronic interference form Cell Phones, MP3's, Computers that are placed on the passenger seat. I friend of mine works at a Mercedes dealership and they get a number of cars in with the similar problem. I had my car for over 2 years and within 4 months of having a MP3 player sitting on the seat, my OPDS went out.
Just something to be aware of. I no longer place electronics on the seat.

Mind is fixed. Good thing it was under warranty. They said it was the drivers seat sensor and the OPDS brain. Cost 800 is what they quoted. Good thing I didnt have to pay any.

I did not scan the entire thread to see if anyone told you guys this but there is now a recall on the passenger seat sensor. Also, you may have triggered that sensor with a cell phone. A cell phone will mess with the sensor and cause it to trip. Keep your cell phones away from the seat. I have had that light come on several times and they told me the code that comes up is triggered by a cell phone. My service rep told me to keep the pas. seat cell phones in the center console under the radio. I have also had my daughter
clip her cell phone to the sun visor, toward the inside away from the door. It of course was my daughter's cell that triggered it several times. Take it in and have them take a look at it. Your sensor may be bad and if it is not bad, they may just reset it for free. Normally, it costs about $70.00, but they did it free when they checked out the sensor.

It sounds like lot of people are having problems with their Air Bag light. I have the red SRS light on my dash and it won't go off.
My car is 5 years old 2002 TLS) and has 63k miles.
Someone mentioned warranty extension of some sort. Is my car covered by this?
Also someone else mentioned tech bulletin? Can you post more information about that?

As I told you in the other thread, go register at Acura Ownerlink and you can find out for yourself.
