shut off while driving

my 99 has 130k.
last nite while driving, the car just shuts off.
it did it three or four times.
it would shut off...i put it into neutral..restart it while coasting.

i got it home.
drove to work this morning and everything is fine.

it had the ignition recall done way back when.

the car has a CEL that is reading the rear banksensor is bad.
i've been driving like for a couple months.

what do you think the problem is?.
any input would be greatly appreciated.

for starters why have you been driving for months with something like that that is bad?

Now to the current problem, im assuming that the CEL has been on this whole time and that you dont know if its thrown a cel or not?

joe, do you lose power windows and gauge lights when the car dies? If so, it's the ignition switch. I have one for sale for $50. I'll even install it for you.

thx for the replies.
yes it loses power, like it gets shut off.
never tried the power windows, but headlights stay on, the dashboard goes black.

u think it might be the ignition sw?
even though it had the recall done?.
i posted about this months ago, when it first started happening.

and i replaced the rear bank 02 sensor but the CEL remained.
the catalytic converter rattles...i think that is the problem.
i have a replacement in my garage(Excelerate random cat groupbuy)

so yes i've been driving like this for a few months.
it has done this roughly 10 times, in that timespan.

it was doing it before the CEL came on.
it never threw a CEL when it did this in the past.

i looked at the install instructions for the ignition sw.
it didn't look easy.

It's certainly possible that the replacement ignition switch is causing the problem. Like any mechanical part, it can fail.

And do you have another ignition key to try? Maybe your key is acting up. The immobilizer keys can be damaged by excessive heat or moisture.

And don't keep another Honda/Acura key on your keyring. The immobilzer keys can interfere with each other.

It won't throw a CEL for the ignition switch.

Installing it is a piece of cake. I did mine in about 30 minutes.

did it again last nite.
and it does that clicking sound.
you know that sound when you turn key and
the Park lock clicks...know what i mean?
and it was like rapid fire clicking.

and headlights stayed on.
but the guage cluster was dead.
i always takes three or four tries to restart.
then the instrument panel lights up and the car starts.

it's gotta be the ignition switch.
