shop "power flushed"

I took my car to a transmission shop to have the tranny rebuilt.

When I went to pick up the car he said it was not done because they had to order a speed shift sensor, and that they had just "power flushed the cooling system that it checked out fine at 5 quarts per second" (I was so shocked I can't remember if he said minutes/seconds)

I asked him what that would do to the oil jet cooler kit that Acura had installed per recall. He had no clue what I was talking about, and became irritated when I asked if he used the "proper fluid from Honda", he says "Ms, your Transmission is good as new dont cha worry' bout it"

My question to you guys is...

If they rebuilt the trans why would they "power flush" it after?
Is the Oil jet kit something obvious that they should have been aware of?
Could they have damaged something? I know the motor mounts are a common replacement with the tranny. Is the speed sensor also a common replacement?
I'd like to be well informed when I go back to finally get my car,
I read through pages of the tranny thread but would like your opinions on what I should do..If anything.
Thank you oh so very much!

OK- there is going to be a HUGE problem
Sounds like you took in sonewhere thinking it needed a rebuild? why?
and are you past the trans extended warranty limits?

If they drove your car and figured a fluid flush was all it really needed, then somehow hooked it up to a machine- which the TL is supposed to have a built in protection against- and ran fluid at pressure thru it- most likely NOT Honda ZR1- they have caused serious damage to the car.
Another member just did the same thing- and instantly the car wont shift out of 1st- has warning lights and was told it needed a speed sensor thats coming in friday will fix it.

Our advice here was to demand the proper 3qts x3 times method as precribed by honda be done, using Honda fluid- or they pay the dealer to do it for them.

If they use dextron3- which many do- its really bad on the TL, SO BAD that the book calls for this complete-- manual method --to remove all of it!!! when even a little was added in an emergency.

The external oil jet kit is a funky looking device that slips into the top filling hole for the trans-
Normally it would have to be removed for the correct 3x3 method,
but I am guessing they simply tapped into the main lines to the system and shoved fluid thru it and a filter- not even new oil!!!

Sure doesn't sound as though they rebuilt it . . .?

The speed sensors can go bad. Not uncommon.

Power flushed the cooling system? or the tranny? either way, it would be per minute not second. and I haven't really heard of that as a "woohoo" my car puts 5qts per minute. Sounds a little like high quality blinker fluid (doesn't exist). Regardless, what system was it.

Also, why didn't you get your car back. Same as initial problem and they didn't fix it right? Do not let them scam you. if they did unnecessary repairs don't pay for them.

What did you initially take your car in for? Symptoms?

there is another member that got the power flush last week- and dex3 !
The car would not shift out of 1st and D5 light was blinking constantly.
Codes said speed sensor on trans- ordered -installed friday- changed it back to honda fluid- all better-
tech even demostrated old part- problem- , new part in- no problem

So maybe we have a new thing to watch for- its just an external part----

Out of curiosity, what are the symptoms of a bad speed sensor?

Thanks!

I initially took my car in because it was shuddering under lite excelleration between 2nd and 3rd gear.

It always seemed like it was searching for the correct gear, my RPM needle would crazily bounce around for no apparant reason, and it would whine.

I told them I thought it was my 3rd gear clutch pack.

The first time I went to get it it was not done, said they had ordered a speed shift sensor.

When I finaly got the car I asked for a detailed receipt, this is what it says
"Performed test, Remove Inspect and Recondition customers transaxle& Torque converter. Power flush Transmission cooler. $2,763".

My car immediatly began to do the same thing, the guy said to bring it in and he'll "order a selenoid".

This is where I REALLY have a problem bringing my car back to him,

He stood there and told me that "this was one of the best transmissions Honda ever made, we never see them in here".
I knew he had not listened to a word I said at that point.

I washed and waxed my car the day I brought it in there and when I saw it again there was a huge deep scratch in it, and the stereo was flashing "code" when I went to enter my code I saw a screwdriver on my leather seats, and the plastic is all pried apart like they tried to reset the stereo from the back or something, my interior WAS perfect, so WAS my paint. I'm so pissed I have to calm down before confronting the manager about these things.

Wow, I am really sorry about that. Sounds like they shoul have rebuilt it. I would, like you said confront him on all of those things. seems pretty hokey to me and a very high price. I would expect that they would throw new solenoids in by default but oh well. If they don't get it working right (that is if you decide to let them work it again), I would tell them to pay honda to fix it. Really would have been better there in the first place, but lesson learned.

Paint, Stereo, OUCH. I'd be pissed too. Don't let them screw you.

yes that was me when the tech changed the magnetic pickup sensor the problem was fine but you want to make sure you pull the codes to make sure which sensor it is. dont just be a parts replacer.
