!! Seafoam in oil !!

ok so i know there are trends about this---but question for you guys

i wanna put SEAFOAM in my oil to clean the engine

i have a oil leak from im thinkin is the rear main seal
its leaking from where the tranny and engine connect by that inspection plate there

wud it be ok to put seafoam in my crankcase---it came to my mind that if i did put it in there that the seafoam wud make my oil leak more

just a thought that came to my head

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ???

thanks for the help

sure its possible it can cus it to leak more if it removes dirt that maybe clogging the leak. your best bet is to stick with a synthetic "high mileage" formulated motor oil to help swell up the seals. and stick with *W30 oil.

How much do you leak? also pop open the oil cap and take a look at how dirty under the valve covers are.

well it only leaks after i drive it---if i look under the car when i pull in my driveway i can see it drips every 5-6 seconds-----my opinion is its ptetty bad

i opened the oil cap and it seems to look pretty normal in there ya know

sooooo you wud say NO to seafoam in the oil due to it leaking more then or what ?????

if you suspect a bad drip, id diagnose where the drip is coming from and fix the drip before id do a seafoam treatment. do you have to add oil often?

I wouldn't switch to synthetic before fixing the problem.

^ i agree, get the leak fixed first its the most important problem. otherwise adding synthetic oil every 3 days would burn a hole in your wallet.

seafoam, change oil, get rear main seal replaced
that way there is no crud in the oil to effect the brand new seal

I wouldnt seafoam it till you have it fixed. Putting it in now could only lead to a possibility of it leaking more.

ok,,how about a day before it gets fixed,,seafoam it good!!

so all the grit and crud is removed with the old oil..reducing possibility of damage to the new seal

I dont see it causing an increase in a seal leak--
the idea that sludge in a TL engine---- not some 30 year old sludge chevy, is holding the seal intact....cmon guys lets get real
