reverse gear jerks when cold.

on my 99 tl my reverse gear jerks in the morning during cold start, its like back thrust. when it warms up it shifts smooth into reverse. its been doing it from 6 months. i did an transmission fluid change at oil can henry's 4 months ago and i am sure they didn't replace it with atf z1. this problem still persist. i think transmission fluid is not lubricating the gears when cold, is there any transmission oil filter i can change or should i try cleaning shift solenoid?

I was just reading abut this prob on another thread
One of the trans rebuilder gurus' says try cleaning of the selenoids

and be aware of extra line pressure to 4th and reverse gear- they share parts-
there are computer issues increasing line pressure trying to get itself to shift...
that makes it worse..

Let it warm up a minute or 2 before shifting into R and see if that helps
When the fluid is warm its less pressure
do a search for `line pressure` and should find it

why are you still running the wrong fluid?
Wasnt that your first weeks worth of new threads--about your trans and the fluid?

Motor mounts checked? Transmission mounts checked? Replace fluid with z1 immediately. You should know that

Four solenoids on this car if you wanna go the whole route.

Or you could park the car in reverse.

2 minutes should be fine for warmup of trans fluid- more time than that and the engine isnt happy
It likes to get moving after a minute so it gets warmed up too

I found some very useful information. I think anything that can help our transmissions is a good thing. From what I've been researching there are pressure switches on the 4 spd and 5 spd honda transmissions. Owners have talked about the good results they were getting from putting new pressure switches in.

I did my research by googling acura pressure switch and it came up with posts on the tl and the cl side and other places.

Haven't really seen this info myself and I know alot of people are complaining about rough shifting. It seems like this may help alot of people on here. I know I'm gonna try this myself. They say it only takes about 15 mins to replace the two switches. 04-07 TL's have three. Two of which are for the 3rd gear.

Alot of memebers have said try cleaning the solenoids but sometimes it wasn't sucessful for long so this is something else I feel would benefit us.

I know we would all love to have more sound trannies. This is just one step closer to a pice of mind.

We can clean it with electronic parts cleaner or replace the switches with new one, it's up the the owner. Usually the pressure switch does not fail by itself. What caused the problem is the contamination from the transmission clogging up the switch's port, that is why the switch doesn't do it job. You can put a new one in but if the internal of the transmission is coming apart it still would clog it up again. But yes, it is a good idea to take it out and clean or replace it once a while can save alot of money later on.

i went to an experienced tech this morning and he told me it's tipical in high mileage car to feel thunk or jerk in reverse as car's rpms are near 1000 or over. warming up to normal rpms makes shift much smoother.
