Question Replacing chrome molding around door opening

Let me start with a little background info....I parked in the BX 2 nights ago and somebody tried to break into the driver door of my car...what ever they were using to try to pry open the door to stick something in to pull up the lock left a big dent in the chrome molding that runs around the door. It looks terrible and I would like to replace it. They also ripped the rubber molding that seals the door closed.

1) Does anybody know where I can get the chrome molding and rubber door moldings besides the dealer?

2) Has anybody replaced this before that could give a DIY for replacing the chome around the door? (the chome that is fixed to the body around the door opening)

You could go to a salvage yard and pick them up.

I know a few people have painted the chrome but I am unsure of whether they took it off or not.

I'm sure someone will chime in about removal.

Did you buy the clips for it? (I think they sell them separately)

If you didn't, I highly recommend you do, the clips that are used to keep them in are a pita to remove without breaking.

I can give you some detailed instructions if you'd like, but I'd save yourself the hassle and just spend an extra $2 for the clips.

Also, did you buy both pieces? The piece at the rear door is only a few inches long, then it meets with the rest of the molding that goes all the way to the side mirror.

I bought both pcs and the clips for both sides since the little pc on the back door was faded.....I was about to try to take it apart myself when a crack head that does mechanic work for a friend of mine told me that he would do it for $5, both sides.....I sat there and watched him replace them in 10 mins....only 2 screws and a bunch of clips

ahahah you let a 'crackhead' who does mechanic-work work on your car?

5 bucks is hard to beat though, nice.

yea, i meant it's a pita if you try to save the clips, but since you had new ones, its not a big deal.
