Replace TB gasket when cleaning EGR?
Replace TB gasket when cleaning EGR?
Hey fellas. I'm gearing up to pull the intake manifold on my '99 TL to clean the EGR ports.
The instructions in the Acura bulletin say to replace the throttle body gasket. I've read the many DIY instructions on this board and no one has mentioned replacing it.
I know it's a cheap part-- I'm just trying to avoid a trip to my stealer if I can.
Thanks

Kris,
Question. What if I have already replaced the EGR valve, cleaned the intake and I'm still getting the Insufficient EGR flow code? What else could be done?

when you cleaned it did you take the upper intake manifold off to clean it out? did you clean all the little tracks in the upper cover, and did you clean out the lower intake manifold to egr hole?
Yes, yes and yes.
Granted I did all of that six months ago, and I replaced the EGR three weeks ago. But since I gave all you mentioned a great cleaning, I didn't bother when replacing the EGR.
You're probably going to tell me that I need to clean all of that again, right?

Thought so. I'll get to that in the next couple of weeks. Thanks, Kris.

With the upper IM look into the port to see if its dirty/clogged. If it is you can use a small pope cleaner brush and some cleaner. Take the EGR off before doing so.

i dont want the crap falling into the hole
I never replaced mine, but I know the Oreilly by my house had them for like 5 bucks. I would buy one just in case it is in bad shape by the time you take it off. I just didn't feel like driving there. The autozone near me didn't have one but could order it. You don't need to go to the dealer.

Kris,
Aside from the insufficient EGR flow, I'm also getting the following code: P1457 Manufacturer Contrl. Auxiliary emission controls
Any idea as to what can cause this and how to fix it?

Beat me to it. There are many things to try. I would use the link to try what was mentioned. But i would do it only after you have cleaned teh egr ports so that its not causing a code
Thanks, Kris. It has been throwing both the insufficient EGR flow and evap canister code for a long time now...and I can't see to get rid of it.
Some of the procedures mentioned in that link are a little unfamiliar to me...Any pointers?
