Problem when turning the car on after short stopping

Hello all,

This is my first post here so I'll take a line or two to introduce myself. My dad owned a 2000 TL (which has about 104-105k now) until now and it's been a great car. I drive it from time to time but I mainly drive my own car ('95 240sx). Ok, now time for the problem I'm having:

Ever since a while ago (maybe as long as upto 5 yrs ago) everytime we start up the car after making a short stop, the car starts wildin out. It starts up fine after a few hours of rest but let's say I make a stop, go into a store for 15 min, come back out, restart the car and repeat, then the problem occurs. It seems to occur more frequently when the outside temperature is hot.

This is what exactly happens when I start the car after stopping a lot; the RPM drops to under or around 500, car starts to shake, TCS comes on, and sometimes the car just dies out (RPM goes up and down as it shakes and just dies out at 0). Now I've read something similar on here, and I read that it might be the coil pack or whatever. Do you guys think that my case also relates to the coil pack problems? I haven't asked my dad but I find it strange that no mechanics were able to fix this problem and it's been occuring for a few years, that's why I decided to take action and find out online.

Anyway, I didn't realize I wrote a 10 page essay, so sorry for the long read and thanks for any help!

Do a search on cleaning the EGR and intake manifold. The symptoms sound like the same issue.

BTW welcome to the board.

I had the some probelm, 2000 tl 93K, chanked plugs, coils, cleaned egr, nothing helped, my friend told me that its an Auxiliary Fan Switch, which is a 2 pin connector that is mounted in the engine to a switch that reads the temperature of the engine, and sends it to the computer, it is located ender the engine cover, under the intake manifold. it happened to me not a long time ago, and i turned the engine off and took off the cover, and unpluged the sensor, and started the car, it was running a little better because the rpm went up. and now it hasnt happened to me lately, so im guessing that if it happens again, i will have to replace thats sensor/switch.
my friend had a saturn, and he had the same probelm, and my friend hooked it up to a computer to read the current computer info, and the temp sensor was showing -57 when the engine was HOT. so he replaced that and eveything was normal.

i posted this in another forum, if you do a search youll find it. sorry about the long reply
