It could also be due to a failing ignition switch. There was an ignition switch recall for the 1999 TL.

I would suspect the EGR passageways inside the intake manifold are severly plugged
See DIY on thermoblock install/EGR cleaning
Call acura and ask if you are covered on the EGR warranty 1-800-382-2238x5 Have your VIN number ready
on the 99s they were having the dealer clean them and install a sleeve in the port- the sleeve doesnt really help but they tried!

i have the same problem i have had my 99tl for bout 2 yrs and it only happened like 3 times. i jus give it a lot of gas and it throws it right out....then its fine. It usually happens when its a bit warmer outside. Who knows???? mayb we need a tune-up!?

well for some of us it can be a tune up but i gave my car a tune up already, so its defenetly not that for me, but it can be that some of us need to clean the egr ports.. i have to clean mine so im sure once i do that my car will be at its 100%

how many miles on your car. sounds like a problem I had for a while. I changed my spark plugs and replace some of my distributors and it fixed it right up. it's probably a sign telling you one of the distributor is going out. I chose to ignore it and it took out three of them... which is very uncommon for an Acura.

coil pack

Distributorless technology, utilizing independent coils for each cylinder.

I've experienced the same problem and I've had the EGR recall done, the ignition switch recall done, tune up, what would be the next step?
