Is it possible to reset odometer to match current engine mileage?
Hello all,
I am new to the world of the Acura TL, thus being new to this forum also. I recently aquired a 1999 Acura TL from a friend that ruined the engine with a radiator leak. The engine had roughly 110k (thousand) miles. I found a low mileage 42k miles, to be exact. I was interested to know if the odometer can be reset to reflect the current mileage of the engine; which can be verified. My mechanic suggested I find a speedo with similar miles, but I thought perhaps the odometer allows for a recalibration/reset by an Acura cert. mechanic, for example? The engine with 42k miles will be installed by a certified Acura mechanic and everything will be verified, warrantied, guarranteed. etc. Thank you to all for any input in this matter.

I agree, "the car has 110k mile" does not matter what the engine has because the rest of the car will suffer the abuse of 110k especially if tranny has 110k, suspension system will also have significant wear. I would just put the new block in and be happy you have a car with 110k that runs so strong.
Certainly, I would disclose the mileage and declare the correct mileage. As I stated, everything I'm doing will be recorded and authenticated if I resold the vehicle. I also agree with the comments that the wear and tear of the other components, i.e. transmission, suspension etc. have experienced higher mileage.
I can think of one, fairly minor issue. The passenger headlight has collected condensation. I would assume this would require removal and reseal of the headlight housing? Is this removal straightforward? Thank you.
Yes fairly straight forward. You will have to remove teh bumper but its Very easy (10 min job for a 1st timer)

You can just imagine that CarFax will pick up the mileage reversal and list it as something wrong, as well as NUMEROUS other problems will be encountered when you go to sell. Put a piece of tape with the mileage of when you installed the engine, just like an oil change sticker,on the door or somewhere.
Keep all the paperwork for the engine rebuild and install as well as oil changes and services. Thats what a buyer wants to see!
