Pillar issue...

Everyone is already pretty familiar with the 2nd gen door pillar issue (they peel on the inside caused by the sun)... I just wanted to know if anyone knows how I can go about fixing them or where I can buy some pillar decals/covers that cover the stock ones because they're peeling and not looking too great

I just had all of mine replaced and painted under warranty. They were fading, and peeling. It made the car look terrible. I'm really happy with how they came out. They sent the car off to the bodyshop. I would see about a good bodyshop to just re-paint your current moldings.

Likein the other threads, simply take them of and sand them smooth and then repaint them yourself with gloss black spray paint.

Yea, the 2 places I talked to wanted $60-$70 for each piece.
I have the invoice for the first 2 I got replaced for free. $65 x 2. (I believe)
What's a "set"? 2? If so, I'd buy it.

Do these things just pop off? Pry? Snap back in?

no you have to peel back the weather stripping and unscrew 4 screws per pillar, there is a diy floating around somewere.
my dealer wanted 290$ for all four

Great DIY that covers the pillar removal.

Any tips on sanding (i.e. what grit sandpaper) and what type of paint?

Hate to revive an old post, but if those of you who have done this mod, could please post up what sandpaper grit and what paint you guys used to achieve the deep glossy black of the original B pillars, that'd be great.

Thanks!

wet sand and buff will get you a mirror finish.

GQ

I just finished my B Pillars. I sanded them down with 320 grit to take off the old finish. I then used a Primer (two coats). Sanded that down with 600 grit. Of course wiping it clean with a wax remover/cleaner. Used three coats of Honda gloss black paint. In between I sanded that down with 600 grit. Then the final coats are clear coat. Three coats of clear with 1000 grit sanding inbetween. The final step that I did was to wet sand with 1500 grit and then buff with rubbing compound and polish. brings out the shine. They look pretty good. I don't have any pictures yet....

Some guys may feel that I overkilled the process, but I wanted a good base and something that will last. Hope that helps
