Parking Brake light

Sometime after I remove the parking brake, the light still remains lit in the dash. Has anyone experienced this?

if your brake fluid is low the light will come on to warn you.

yeah i've read that several times in other related threads...my fluid levels check out. i know i also read that a faulty reservoir cap can also be related.

Yes, the brake is all the way off. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I'll check the brake fluid.

ya either the fluid or cap to the resevoir would be your best bet, also the light can come on I think to warn of other brake-related issues

I forgot to check back with this thread until now. My fluid levels check out. How would I fix the faulty cap, is that just replaced with a new one?

its about 35$ for a new cap by itself
Check the electrical connections on it first
That should not make a PARK BRAKE lamp come on though- a master warning yes
if its park brake lamp- check the switch- should be one behind the park brake pedal

Is it every time you use park brake, or stays on all the time now or whats happening?

Make sure the float moves freely. Look for any gunk on it and clean it up a little.

It just turns on whenever it wants. Even if I haven't used the parking brake, when I turn on the car sometimes the light turns on and then it'll turn off later or sometimes it remains lit.

as long as its the park brake lamp- thats more likely a switch issue- behind the `parking brake pedal`, to tell the light to be on or off
It could be worn out or loose
Same thing happens to the actual brake pedal switch that operates the brake lights- it gets worn or grungy and gives up
easy DIY job for either

If its a master brake warning then suspect cap
