Outside Temp displays "---"
Outside Temp displays "---"
The outside temperature indicator on my 2003 TL-S doesn't display a temperature. The start of this seemed to coincide with the fact that my hood was not completely locked down while driving for a short bit until I noticed it. From what I have been able to find searching here is that the sensor is located somewhere near the engine or radiator. I'm figuring that a lead may have come loose or disconnected from the wind during highway driving with the hood cracked.
Can anyone tell me where exactly to look to see if this is the case? Thanks,

its located below the latch. Its small and if memory remembers correctly like the size of a AA batttery.
And yes it can lead to a draining battery. i had one that would cause the battery to go dead every 2 days (mine was due to wiring from the swap)

You have any tips for removing it? I cant seem to pull it out.

It does two things if you hold them down before and after.
Did you get the number to change on the temp display? It could be the sensor is bad, or bad connector. Unplug it and what do you see?

I just installed a brand new sensor and i also did the reset button to adjust the temp and i see the adjustment numbers but then is goes right back to --- as soon as i let go.
I am not sure, but unless you want to try, pull the battery cable to reset it. The sensor is tied in with the HVAC system and the air mixture control, and fan speed control. So, resetting it could resolve the problem.
Make sure you have your radio code ready, and switch radio to AM before you disconnect the cable.

I would start with where it connects to the sensor. I dont have the manual here but i know i posted the testing procedure once before for someone. Try doing a search and see if you can find it.
Try this. Self diagnostic built into the climate control unit.
While car in on but not running push auto and off buttons at the same time for a minute. The section where the temp displays will show alternating "88" and a code or codes.
Looking at the manual either one of the top parts of the "88" is the indicators for the outside air temp circuit. The left top one means there's an open and the right top one means there's a short.
Just somewhere to start. If that doesn't work I can tell you which connector to check to find the broken wire(s).

Looks like the bottom of the first 8 is flashing. According to the manual "A problem in the air mix control linkage, door, or motor". None of those correspond to your original question.
Was there any others flashing? If multiple problems exist there will be more than one section flashing.
Thanks for the pics.

I had the same door lock problem with my drivers door so I replaced it and now my passenger rear is doing the same thing. Sometimes it opens sometimes it doesn't.
Back to your original problem are you aware of how to test the connectors for broken connections?
