One thing after another..... OIL LEAK!!!

So I went to the meet yesterday, and on the way there I get a nail in my tire had to go on the cruise with a donut. Then on the way home a rock hits my windshield and crack it. Now if that isnt bad enough, my car is now leaking oil.

It has leaked from this same place before, and I thought it was the oil pan gasket/silicone, but its now doing it again. Here is a pick of the location, its right in between where the tranny meets the engine.

I removed the little cover that protects the flywheel or something like that, and i also removed the cover that covers the shift linkage, I think. Reason for that is because thats where most of the oil is leaking from.

Oh that white stuff is paint, I ran of a can of paint and my whole undercarriage looks like it was nutted on by an elephant.

Now if someone can give some advice on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately thats looks like a rear main seal leak. Very costly to fix due to the labor. They have to remove the trans to fix a 5 dollar part

Is it something I can do myself?? Please say yes. I am a mechanic, so I have the ability, but I think I may be lacking the tooling. I wanna try to fix this today or tomorrow, and it seems possible for only a 5 dollar part.

Its not for the faint of heart, but Yes its possible for a DIYer but like i said, you have to remove the trans from the car to fix it. Once the trans is out its just a matter of popping the old seal out and popping the new one in.

Since you are a mechanic its just another VERY VERY VERY Heavy automatic on front wheel drive set-up
Rent a trans jack and save a trip to the hospital!
Then straight r&r oil seal
Use HONDA trans fluid if you decide to change while there or need to add.

The book time for trans r/r is about 4 hours

Well Im an aircraft mechanic, not automotive. So it will be new to me, but I think its something that I can accomplish. Wish I had a Haynes Manual, but for some reason they arent carried in any of the autoparts stores around my house.

Its not really that hard. Just be smart and use your head. Look at things that you think need to come off (like any electrical harnesses attached to the trans, any thing bolted to it thats attached to some other part)

you will have to remove the halfshaft nuts on the knuckle and separate the lower ball joint and remove the axles. open up the inspection plate on the bottom of the trans and remove the trans to flex plate bolts.

I know i uploaded the instructions from the helms manual here for a member that replaced his own trans Try doing a search to see if you can locate them
