Lightbulb OEM CD Player Resolution

Rumor has it that the Memorex Black CD-R's have been capable to be read by the factory radio in the '99-'01 TLs... I'm sure writing speed has much to do with this also. So before I go out there and possibly put out some money.. I have two questions...

One, are buying Memorex Black CD-R's worth it?

Two, the older burners.. (I actually have one here luckily), I heard the magnetic strips are burned alot more wider as opposed to current burners.. the thinner the strip, the more likely it is harder for the CD player to read the cd. Since I have an older model (max 16x), may writing a playable CD work through that?

Third, If worse comes to worst, what compatible CD changers are out there that supplement to the '99 HU? I ran across a 10 disc cd changer, (about $198 for everything including the wires, assembly, etc.) but I lost the thread to that one.

Any comments are welcome! Thanks!

My suggestion to you would be to buy an IPOD and an adapter for your factory system. I know it's a kind of off beat suggestion, but I just installed my Blitzsafe adapter today. I got the 60GB Video about a month ago. I don't think I'll ever play a cd in my car again. Check out my thread from earlier today.

BTW the IPOD sounds great in my car

Well, I thought about it.. and I am.. just an everyday average college student.. so you know how tight the budget would be. But then again, If i were to get an aftermarket system, I'd want to get the Pioneer AVIC-D2. I have the tl with out the nav preinstalled, so haveing the advantage of playing 32X+ burned cds, playable mp3's as well as DVD and navigation?.. definitely a good buy.. I'll be turning to ebay 1-2 months from now when the system becomes cheaper and "old". I'm one of those wonderers that'd make great use out of this thing for years to come.

.. But, my second choice, would be the Sony Xplod CD Receiver/ Changer Controller w/ MP3 Playback, CDX-FW700

Other than that, just a regular CD changer would just solve the whole cd issue for just $100-150. Thanks for the comment though, I already started looking it it.

Thanks! I could definitely find those at Compusa

- At what speed do you burn them at?
- Does it do the usual where you'd have to wait for 30 -60 secs for the cd to start playing & skip through tracks or does it just start playing automatically?

most of the time it plays right away but sometimes it takes about 3-5 seconds

OH MY GOD!! bkzjimmy!! IT WORKS!!! YES!!!!... I've travelled many miles to get these CD-Rs.. but they WORK!!! aahhh!!!!!!!!!! lol. Thanks alot!! I've burned my first cd @ 4x (just as a precaution) and the cd plays 1-2 seconds after I insert it into the HU and even resumes itself after 1-2 secs once I turn off and restart the car again! ahhhhhhh!!! :-) ... Dude.. i'm so happy, I was worried about getting an aftermarket unit or just getting a CD deck to put in the trunk. geez. There's one downfall though.. i'm able to fast foward and skip a track or two, but I can't do the same skiping back to different tracks... other than that, i'm just fine i guess. There's definitely a difference in audio quality too, so that's a plus.. thanks!
