Sweet video... I always loved the GN.. I used to drive an 87 Olds 442, (similar body as the GN) and I always wished it was a GN

The GN comes with a single turbo. Doesn't even need two. Actually, I believe having a single turbo is sometimes preferable, like with the Supra

GN's were incredibly fast in the late 80's and still are. Just don't try and turn them!

I disagree. It's easier to drive consistent with an auto, and an auto is better for a turbo application, as the boost doesn't drop, but otherwise I think a manual is better.

You get more power to the wheels compared to an auto, you can get quick controlled launches and shift faster (both driver skill though)

Imagine an auto S2000? It would be slow as shit from a stop.

how about the quickest supras- auto > mt

worlds quickest wrx- auto > mt

i guess my comment works better w/ highly modified vehicles.

you saw how badly the viper got owned when it shifted. there had to have been some hp or power to weight differences as well.

autos can put up more consistent times, but manuals have better gearing and dont lose as much power to the wheels

I addressed it here with my quote above:

"an auto is better for a turbo application, as the boost doesn't drop, but otherwise I think a manual is better."

All of the cars you mentioned are Turbocharged. They usually run faster when highly modified due to the fact that the revs don't drop when you shift an automatic, which means that the boost doesn't fall like it would with a manual tranny.

But for a NA application, Manual > Auto (well driven of course)

The 3.8L Buick Turbo V6, wonderful!!! IMO, the T-Type/GN/GNX were the beginning of the modern muscle car.

I used to want a GN. Especially since a few friends had them and all I could afford was a used Cutluss or Regal.

They are definitely a good collector car.

The torque convertor is also a big factor. With my TE62, I used a 3800 stall with lockup.

It is certainly nice to build boost at the line; makes for some serious launches if you have the traction.
