Odd Sound - Startup - Transmission?

Hello All,

I am new to the forums and there seems to be tons of knowledge here! I did some searching before I decided to make a post but didn't find anything.

BTW: I just purchased a 2003 Acura TL Type-S and I love it.

So here is my issue:

After I start the car and put into reverse to back down my drive way, after I get moving a bit I here a buzzing sound that vibrates the floor a little and lasts about 2 seconds. Then I put the car into drive to go down my street and after about 20 feet or so, it will repeat the same sound, but only for 1 second. It doesn't repeat until I shut the car off and let it sit. It sounds to me like a pump is pressurizing something, and since this only happens when putting into gear, I am connecting it with the transmission. Anyone have any ideas, but its driving me nuts!?!?!

This buzzing doesn't seem to affect the performance of the car at all, just an annoyance at this point, but I would really like to know whats causing it.

That is absolutely normal. It is ABS self checking.

Yep, ABS. My old Accord used to do this, but the ABS was damaged and it would make that buzzing sound for about 5 minutes, so I just unplugged the terminal to the ABS pump.

This is a good thing to know if you could shed some light. Where is the terminal located?

I really dont know on the TL, but on my Accord it was located near the brake fluid container on the right side of the engine. It was a little black box with a orange cable on it.

DO NOT UNPLUG THE CABLE just because of the noise in your TL. You most likely will not have ABS anymore. enjoy braking.

Thank you for the info. I won't be disconnecting it unless it is going haywire.

a few seconds of noise is normal- 10 seconds should send it to a brake specialty shop for inspection of the ABS controller

Flush your brake fluid now- and once a year from now on!

Why is this good to know?? If yours makes the noise like it should every thing is working properly. Dont unhook it or you will loose your ABS.

^Thats what I was wondering. Why does he want to know how to disconnect such an important feature. Like asking "how can i disengage the airbags?"
