Odd Idle Vibration

Have a 2000 TL with 131k miles on it, original tranny. I've noticed that when at idle, there is a vibration that is cyclical, on for about 20 seconds, off for about 20 seconds, etc. The rpm holds steady at approximately 850 all the time. When shifted into gear, but holding steady with the brake, the amount of vibration decreases, but it is still there. Even at idle it is not too bad, but definitely noticeable.

I have changed spark plugs (Iridium NGK), tranny fluid change (3x3), Seafoam through vacuum line, Redline in fuel, new air filter, oil change, and stock configuration. I'm thinking it may be the engine mount(s), but would like to know if anyone else has this and what they did about it.

PS. The salesperson I bought it from said "this is normal, they all do it...."

Motor mounts. Especially if they have never been changed. You have probably been driving on broken mounts for 50+k miles now.

Thanks for the inputs; pretty much confirms what I thought. Got them on order from acuraparts, along with a few other things I "need"...adds up quick!

Also looked through the Helm's manual last night, and could not find any installation instructions for the mounts, just the engine removal/install. Thanks to the DIY, it doesn't appear to be too bad, but wonder why its not in the manual (or did I just overlook it in the 12,000 pages)?

That 20 second cycle time puzzles me. Are you sure it's not just the additional load on the engine from the ac and radiator fans cycling?

Sorry about that, should've been about every "2" seconds, vibrate on then off, repeat ad nauseum. And it does it immediately after cranking, with the AC off or on, and becomes less noticeable when shifted into gear...but it's still there.

Hopefully the fix is on its way, got the front and side mounts coming FedEx from Acuraautomotiveparts.org - I'll pass on the results.

wow, I need to change mine out too...

and the mounts are vac assisted. so I'm assuming the vac assist kicks in when we put the car in gear?

I don't feel it in gear either

Only the front and rear mounts are vac assisted, and are enabled when the engine is cranked. The "stiffness" of these mounts changes based on throttle position/vacuum. The side mount looks like just a rubber bushing, but also has something called a "dynamic damper" on it, whatever that is (?).

Looks like a pretty easy install for the front and side mounts, but I have a way of making simple tasks into some abstract graduate math class problem, so I'll let you know how it goes and how it runs.

The mounts were ordered Friday and are on the truck for delivery today. Great price and great service from Acuraautomotiveparts.
