Exclamation New Tranny Ideas

Surprise my 03 tl-s tranny blew up the other day, are there any fail proof new ones. I dont wanna spend 4500 on a remanned tranny that will fail again, I no many people are one third, fourth, fifth, even sixth tranny. I have heard of people putting in 6 speeds and I have yet to hear of issues with them. Is the 6 speed the way to go or just pray for a good remanned?

An 03 may still be in coverage of the extended trans warranty- 7.9/109
or close enough to merit some `goodwill warranty` (coverage past limits)
to get a price match of local rebuild ~$2500 USD,,installed and down the road

a Used manual transmission 6 speed, plus the cl-s motor if not already type S
and all the extra wiring and parts,, $$$$
plus labor!!! if not a major DIY person= is going to run parts and labor--well beyond 4 to 5 grand
and still you can damage synchros and wear out clutch on it too!
assuming its a good trans direct from the junkyard- excuse me auto dismantling and recyling,,it could have its own problems

$4500 is full retail price- installed acura reman unit in a `new design case` done at dealer

local trans shops rebuild yours,
both will get new parts that wear out, and the good used parts get recycled/reused in your trans (at acuras place, its thousands of these trans taken apart- boxes of every part inside - the specialized rebuilder guy grabs what he needs along with the new parts, clutchpacks etc
both come with warranty 1 to 3 years

option: the auto recycler for a Honda Oddessy trans
those have been reported as a good choice - newer,,hopefully they figured out how to make these trans operate better/cooler- provided more oil flow to parts etc

Who has the exact swap info on that? direct bolt up? years?

I'm wiyh 4tl. Me and my mechanic dropped in an 05 accord v6 tranny for 800 and havent looked back. Direct bolt up but you will need to loop the hose for the power steering assist back onto itself and your steering may be a hair stiffer making for an even sportier feel.

Quick question will this option work for a 99 TL also? Or is 99 left in the cold.

Be glad you have the far more reliable 99 trans

I'm asking just in case, that's all. I do have a flared shift between 2-3 but very minimal. Fluid does need to be changed, waiting on the cash to get DW-1 fluid.

Yeah dont cheap out on fluid, use the wrong fluid and that transaxle is toast.

Ask Aamco about the clutch plates, see if they are using OEM or aftermarket high energy plates. I've heard that there are some that have Kevlar that work better than the OEM's.

make sure they use the NEW honda fluid DW-1
speak with the manager and the actual tech who will be working on your car
place a large note on top of engine cover USE HONDA `DW1` ATF ONLY

the `old` honda zr1 has been discontinued--
and certainly dont use the same dextron 3 most cars use,
that wont do well in the TL~ or wont do the TL well!

did we already mention the front motor mount is often found bad at trans time?
easy, few minutes to install with trans removed..but part cost 150 (average retail)
