Okay so here's my problem, I have a 99 acrua tl, about few 100 miles till it hits 150k miles on it. I bought it used in Dec of '13. In the last few months, its been acting up. In a week I had to replace my radiator again (the first time, in aug of '14, the guy did a horrible job) the starter, new battery, timing belt, water bump, the thermostat, and gave it a oil change. I also gave it a transmission flush a few months after i bought the car. So this is my problem: when I would start the car, meaning the first start of the day, it idles really low and feels like its going to stall out, unless i give it gas and then its fine to drive. After I drive it, say about 20-30 mins, and i turn off the car and come back, say 5-10 mins, it does the same thing but only once and then its fine.. i can turn the car off for 5-10 mins like before but it won't stall out. Now it seems like the problem as gotten worse. The other night while I was leaving my sisters, it took forever to start. It was dragging to start and i had to give it alot of gas for it to turn over. And once it was on, it was ideling really low and the car seemed to shake. I thought it was doing this because it was so cold at night. The lights inside even went dim and out for a few seconds then went back on. Today, I went to check out my car to see if it would do it again and it did. The car sounded like it wanted to start but you could hear it dragging and then a clicking sound. It took me a good 2 mins for me to get my car started. But once it was on, it was fine. I even turned the car on and off to see if it would do it again but it didnt. My husband and I don't use this car as much, when I go to school 2x a week, I use his car, since his work is only 10 mins away from home, and my school is about 35 mins away. I pretty much drive it around the city to take care of stuff. Can anyone tell me whats going on? I'm tired of spending money a car when I cant even drive it. Please I need help with my car.

 

What is your car's manufacturer date; 4 or 5 speed trans?

MIL/CEL?

Clicking sound is a weak or bad battery.

Clean and check the battery cables for corrosion/fraying (not just a visual).

Get the battery tested.

If the car still has the same symptoms after cleaning and a thorough inspection, then the car probably has "Heatsoak" issues.

There are a lot of old threads on this subject matter, just do a seach for the solution.

 

I have the same problem, starts fine from a cold start but when sitting off for 5-45 mins it acts up on starting. Ive read a bunch of forums on this site and people say it ranges from the FPR to winter gas. I think its winter gas to be honest

 

The battery is new, only about 3 months old. It's a automatic

 

Heatsoak - cheap fix

If your Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) is a non-black dot unit (1999-mid 2000 years) then you might want to try installing the higher pressure FPR (black dot).

However, the car will run rich (rough idle at start up until car warms up) when cold.

You could change the FPR back and forth as summer and winter fuels change if you want. Similar to how peeps switch between summer and winter tires.
