need help identifying this part.....
For a while I have notice a little bit of oil spilled on my drive way so i decided to take a look and i noticed it was coming from this part on my transmission!!! does any body know the name/part #? it looks like it there is a plastic gasket maybe i can change it before it gets worst...i clened it a bit but it had oil dripping from the lower bolt and would i need to drain the tranny before replacing it??
thank you

fsttyms1 is the expert on trans leaks- try PM him with link to this thread
If you are covered under the 7yr+9month/ 109k miles extended trans warranty-
get it to the dealer
One of the listed failure symptoms is fluid leak- that could be a big internal seal making its problem known thru an inspection port
not sure if covered?- register here by VIN

Good Luck!

Thats the inspection cover to the flywheel. Its where your trans and motor meet up. Itsyour rear main seal leaking. You have to remove the trans to fix a 10 dollar part.

Rear main seal means- at the back of the engine sits a seal that the crankshaft comes thru to drive the transmission- it sits between the engine and transmission
ITS A CRITICAL PART FAILURE AND WILL GET WORSE TILL IT BLOWS UP
You are losing the lifeblood of the engine- oil
Trans R&R about 4 hours if you know what you are doing
There is no band-aid solution to this problem Sorry
fsttyms1 is the expert on these trans, and the gen 2 TL among other things

Its not a transmission seal- its an engine oil seal leaking into some places it does not belong

You have to remove the transmission to replace the rear main seal of the engine
The oil pan goes to the bottem not the end
Total failure of the engine oil seal will quickly- like in seconds- pump whatever is left of the 4.5 qts of oil in your engine onto the pavement below....
and then the engine siezes-
this seal is not a part of the trans- it happens to show its leaking by coming out that inspection port- for a reason-!! you have engine oil there- there is only 1 place it can be coming from- and its not good news
Is the transmission shifting ok still??
if its ready for a rebuild, this is the time to do it- while its out, the shop puts in the new seal and everything is fixed at one time
DIY- remove bolts bolts bolts- have real transmission jack- weighs 450 pounds!! guaranteed to hurt you when it falls- and it will!
There are some jobs that it may be a good plan to have a shop do this job for you
If not comfortable with working on your car- let a pro do it
Any private trans shop can handle it for you at a decent price

This is the first mention of red color- you have been calling it OIL
that could be the front main seal of the trans
Same procedure as the rear main engine- and you should replace it too
Keep a close eye on the trans fluid level or you will be replacing the entire thing- soon

That piece is NOTHING more than an inspection cover. There is no gasket there. The ONLY way to replace the rear main seal is to remove the trans.. It has Nothing to do with the trans, or keeping the trans from failing. Its the seal that keeps motor oil from leaking out where the end of the crankshaft comes out to drive the trans. Id have it fixed. Find a independent mechanic and see how much they would want. It shouldnt be more than a 4 hr job for the dealer
