Don't replace the gas cap yet. Take the cap off and put it back on, making you turn it enough to make it click a few times.
Reset the CEL and drive the car for a while. Sometimes that's all it takes.

You can buy the canister new from Acura for less than $60. The solenoid should also be changed as if the canister is going bad, the solenoid isn't far behind it. Be sure to replace the screws as well as they will usually be rusted when you try to remove them.

Dont just go and throw parts at it, I think you mean your code is p1457 which is EVAP Control System Leakage (EVAP canister system). There is a service bulletin for it (03-001). First make sure your gas cap is tight.
Here is part of the bulletin
The EVAP bypass solenoid valve can fail due to
corrosion. The solenoid valve may get water inside. If
the water contains road salt, the solenoid windings
could corrode, causing the valve to fail. In a few rare
instances, the corrosion could be severe enough to
cause an internal short in the solenoid valve, which
could damage the ECM/PCM. If this happens, both the
bypass solenoid valve and the ECM/PCM would need
to be replaced.
Vehicles driven in the Northeastern part of the U.S. are
more likely to have this problem because of the salting
of roads during the winter months. Vehicles driven
where salt is not used on the roads are much less likely
to have this problem
If you dont have access to a honda tablet, there really isnt any way to test the bypass solenoid. Tighten the cap, clear the codes and drive the car for a few days, if it comes back on, look into replacing the bypass solenoid. Get 2 new screws for it as well since they do get rusty.

You can get a new evap canister and weigh that versus your old one. if the old one weighs a considerable amount more it may be soaked in gas and thus needs to be replaced.

Did you get your issue fixed... I scanned the service manual pages, but I have no idea how to post them. Can you PM me your email and I'll send them to you. Sorry for taking so long, I didn't notice your reply.

I had an Avap code not too long ago, by using a smoke test, about a minute i can see the smoke come out the seam of the canister solenoid shut off valve, cost me $48 for it. It fixed now.

Hello all
I'm new to this site so please bear with me. i have 2003 acura TL and the check engine light came on suddenly the other day. it did it monce before a year or so ago. Someone mentioned about taking the gas cap off and outting it back on again shortly thereafter. it seemed to have worked tha time but didn't work this time! Am i doing something wrong? Is there a specific period of time i should leave it off? How do "clear the codes"?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

After resetting the service manual states you have to relearn the PCM Idle. To do this you have to:
- Turn off all electronics (radio, A/C-heater, lights)
- Start engine and hold it at 3,000 rmp until the radiator fan comes on
- Then let the engine idle for 5 minutes with out throttle

Here's the Diagnostic steps for your CEL Code P1457.

As usual you can sometimes skip the checking connections at the PCM, most the time the problem isn't there.

To reset the PCM you have to use a scan tool to reset it or remove the #13 (Clock/Backup) 7.5A Fuse from the Passenger under-dash fuse box.

Thanks everyone. i took the gas cap off a few times and put it back on after several minutes and the check engine light went out on it's own, no sign of it coming back on now for the past several days!
Thanks to all for your great suggestions!
