Navigation Code Needed
Navigation Code Needed
Recently, my battery died and I lost the use of my radio and navigation system. I found the radio code in my owners information but not the navigation code. I am the third owner of the car but the navigation system is the factory system that came with the car.
I called my local Acura dealer and they told me they need to pull the radio out to get the code for the Navigation system - why would this be?
I have read on various threads that the serial number for the Navi is on the bottom side of the DVD trunk mount - once I have the serial number for the system - what do I do? I am not sure where the car was originally purchased - I know the second owner purchased the car in VA but I contacted him but he does not have the Navi code either.
Is there anyway to retreive the code without taking it to the dealer and paying the $180 they insist they need to remove the radio?
Thanks!
Tina

After checking every nook and cranny inside every fuse box cover for a sticker or handwriiten code, looked in the owner book for it hand written on a biz card etc....
Here's what the dealer had to do for my 01- which they had replaced the DVD nav drive in the trunk a few years ago under warranty- and failed to record the nav code or unit serial number anywhere in their system and not on the receipt---oooops
Climb in trunk- unplug wire-
There is a serial number you can see- thats not the right number Doh~
remove 4 screws holding dvd in place. slide out
Look on top of unit for serial number
Take into dealer Service MANAGER who can look it up or call Acura for it.
Assemble everything- plug in- turn key on and try code
If it works- park outside for a few minutes as it reboots and locates position

The serial number on the trunk mounted box should be all you need to retrieve the security code. Take the S/N to your Acura dealer and they should be able to retrieve the security code. I've retrieved the code for one of these previously and all the serial number information was on the bottom of the unit. So you may have to remove it as 01tl4tl wrote.
As another, potentially easier, solution call the original dealership that sold the car and see if they can help. Some dealerships keep the radio and navigation codes on record and all they need is the car's VIN number. I retrieved both of the original codes for my 1999 TL tha way and all it took was a 5 minute phone call.
Good Luck.
Another reason everyone should register on acura.com by VIN number
You can securely store the codes in online account if you ever need them, and the next person will have them via the cars account when you sell
The codes may already be in that system- check it out

This has helped members on road trip and the battery died, went online and retrieved codes, continue 800 miles with tunes as planned~
The idea of the security codes is to cut down radio theft- so writing them next to the item is not the best idea. On the other hand, a gen2 radio is worth what these days, compared to a modern radio... so hopefully they will bother some other car than any of ours.

But, if you're not the original owner, be aware that the codes won't work if the radio or the trunk mounted navigation box were replaced at some point. That's scenario has caused problems for some TL owners.
Exactly where you said it would be
