mysterious moaning
I'm new to the forum....
A while back I heard this most forlorn moaning sound in my garage. About five minutes later, I heard it again. I was sure I had some poor half dead animal in my attic and even sent my son-in-law up to inspect. There was no animal and the "moan" remained a mystery.
Later, my husband and I were out looking at some real estate. We parked the car and got out to gaze at the landscape. That's when I heard it again! It was obviously coming from the car; but, it was difficult to tell the direction. The sound lasts for about 5 seconds.
I have a 2003 Acura TL-S. I've read other threads describing a moan while driving slow or while turning the wheels, but I only hear this "moan" when the car is parked and the engine is off (and I happen to be around to hear it).
Please shed some light on this "moaning mystery"!

i would say to take the hobo out of your trunk or at least let him get out and run around for a bit he might be getting a little cramped in there
on a serious side where is the noise coming from engine? is the fan kicking on and off?? need more details....

Kristaw,
You are not alone! This is the exact reason I'm searching these forums today.
I have a 2003 Acura TL. Earlier this summer I was camping at Rushing River for a few days, we kept hearing this low moan/groan throughout the weekend. We were sure it was someone's dog, or possibly an owl or some sort of wild animal ... it continued roughly every 15 - 20 minutes and lasted only a few seconds .. basically driving us crazy.
To my susprise, when I got home and was unpacking the car ... there was the sound again (it followed me home
). A week or so later, the guys and I were in the garage playing poker, my car parked outside, sure enough every once in a while this groaning noise burst out. I've been beside the car a few times while it's happening, it's impossible to pinpoint where it's coming from though .. and it's so sporadic ...
I was at Acura yesterday and asked them if they have ever heard of this, which they haven't, and it didn't seem to happen while I was there.
To tell you the truth, I haven't heard it in a while, but I also do not spend alot of time hanging out beside my car when it's parked. It has been cooling off here as well, the times I did hear it, it was nice and warm outside (just an observation)
Acura basically told me I'll probably have to wait and see if it gets worse ...
Perhaps I ran over a small animal and now it's haunting my car ...
Please let me know if you figure this out

Xaikar,
Thank You! I hope everyone else who thought I was just spicing up the forum with a bit of humor reads your reply.
I, too, heard the moaning more during summer months and I heard it most recently about 3 weeks ago. Of course it was still quite warm here in central California. Now, the temps are in the 70's. Could this have anything to do with the outside temperature sensor?? Is this a mechanical device???
I'm not surprised that Acura had no idea. That's why I haven't bothered with the dealership here. Not to mention, I didn't really want to watch them choke back their laughter
Thanks! and let me know if you figure it out...

I've never heard anyone describing as "moaning". Most people claim it was more of a "mooo" of a cow.
In any event, it's your fuel pump. It's not a widespread "problem" per se, but it happens quite often on '98-'02 Accords, and TL/CL. There's nothing wrong with it.

Pure Adrenaline.
Thanks! ...although, it would have to be a pretty sick cow!
Just curious -- how'd you figure it out since no one at Acura seems to know??
(Xaikar -- hope you saw this update
)
P.S. I heard the lover of some Acura CEO was murdered on the assembly line and every car that rolled off for some time was stained with the blood of the victim and the victim now haunts all those cars! ( Happy Halloween!

Interesting ... I did find some old posts regarding noisy fuel pumps https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...uel+pump+noise ... someone summed it up to "I always assumed it was the fuel pump maintaining a positive pressure in the fuel system so it didn't evaporate."
Makes sense to me, I guess ... thanks!

I've never heard my TL do this, but my 99 Accord did it constantly. I sat outside with it in the driveway one day talking on the phone and it did it about once every 15 minutes. It was weird at first but seemed totally normal after I got used to it.
