My Car is MESSSSED UP

03 TL-S with 132k. I bought it at 105k from the origninal owner. So couple weeks ago the car was going into reverse after a 3 second delay so I checked the fluid and it was burnt and low so I added th ecorrect honda fluid.

Test Drive after- Car shits the bed on me.

Flash Forward-

Bring it to the dealer they won't cover anything. They say I need a new torque converter and a whole new tranny. Also they said (1) It had all the recalls. (2) This is the original tranny. (3) They want $4500 to put in a new tranny.

Here are my questions.

(1) Is this tranny covered under Acura's goodwill offer?
(2) How many miles does the goodwill offer cover?
(3) Whats the appropriate ammount to pay for a new tranny including labor from an Acura dealer?
(4) What vin numbers in the 03's were the 'good' ones.

I have looked at the sticky and there's 66 pages dating back to 2005 way to much stuff to find I figured I'd just post because they are pretty simple questions for people who know what the deal is.

Thanks Guys I need your Help and Appreciate it!!!

There is NO such thing as a goodwill offer from acura. Many members have been good willed by the dealer and acura, but there is no deal, no set mileage. Its all luck of the draw. The typical cost is 4500. There were NO good ones for 03. They all have problems. Acura tied something new for a certain range but it didnt work.

So Im stuck paying $4500 for a faulty design. That sucks. Cars not worth putting $4500 into it

Thats what the extended warranty (up to 114k or 7 years) was for. To help alleviate the problematic design issues.
Yes your stuck paying for it. You have other options. Look into a trans rebuilder or

If there wasnt an "warranty extension" on the 2gs I wonder how many people would expect "assistance" from an Automaker for a failing tranny at 130k??????? This has gotten so outta hand.

Sorry..but I would expect a "premium" vehicle to last longer than 130K

Ever heard the saying "you get what you pay for"? My 03 TL-S was just under 35K new.. Guess its not the case with Acura?

I bought it this June and its still got the original trans. Acura extended the warranty to 114K, but how does that help those who bought their car used with more miles than they state in the warranty? The car had 122K when purchased and 126K now.. if the trans decided to shit out I would like to think that Acura would kick in some help considering the short time Ive owned this car...

LONG story short...I feel your pain WS6. I wouldnt give up just yet...

I hate to say this, but smart car buyers should have researched the used car (premium or not) before they buy it, and stay away from 2nd gen. TL's and CL's to avoid future headaches and potential $ loss.

The vehicle did last past 130k. The trans did not. OP felt the car wasnt worth putting the 4k into it for a new trans.... if someone wants to buy a car with 115k on it they have every right to. I just feel that people have come to "expect" some type of assistance after the warranty/extension has already expired. The extension was put out there to assist and compensate people having premature failure. Its just the general lack of accountability in this country that irritates me. When is it "our" fault and not "their" fault.

so youre saying were not smart, eh?

Im sure there is more than a handful of people that dont have access to the wealth of knowledge on the internet... I found out about the transmission issue a short time after I bought my car.

HART -I see where youre coming from, however I do believe that Acura should make an exception for those like ws6 and others who bought these cars used and had no idea about the issues with the AT. Im not saying they should be held fully accountable but IMO should provide some assistance in these special cases. JMHO

When it's actually our fault and they don't make a faulty transmission, maybe?

Many dealers do try to help. It just so happens that the OP's dealer did not want to help him out. Whether this was Acura corp's decision or the dealer's is anybody's guess. The OP should try calling Acura Corp. and see if he can get any sympathy and at least partial coverage of the replacement costs. Can't hurt to ask.

however, mine does not fall under the vin numbers that allow for 114 k warranty. Go to www.acura.com and get a hold of client services and go nuts.
