To much ATF fluid?

Had the car serviced at the dealer 2 weeks ago. Routine maintenance. They also changed my transmission fluid. A few days ago the transmission started shifting rough, then began slipping.

I called and made a appointment to have it checked.

After reading the massive tranny failure thread I figured I would add my name to the list. I decided before I took it in to check the Fluid level. I let the car warm, and checked the level, and it was half way up the dipstick!

If they overfilled it how much damage can this cause to the transmission?

btw it is a 03 tl with 91k on it

Could have caused a lot of damage. Get the car to the dealer and point that out to them. If they did thats their mess up

first you need to perform the fluid level inspection by the book
check your year- iirc my 01 owner book says drive on the freeway 15 minutes then get off and Park- stop engine- check level- should be between the dots

A lot of fluid goes into the torque convertor- just sitting in the driveway will give a false reading

Its page 216-217. Doesnt say 15 minutes, says operating temp- which I take to mean the trans needs to be at its normal temp, not sitting parked with engine warming up

Also states for the 3x3 ~flush~ it calls for a 3rd drain and fill-drive drain plus a 4th set as the final fill. We have all been talking about 3x3 with the 3rd set as last

there is often a direct relation of higher mileage TL getting a trans fluid change and loss of transmission grippage soon after. It washed away the crud holding the clutch pack bits together

91 k miles or kilometers? oil jet kit recall was performed when?

"there is often a direct relation of higher mileage TL getting a trans fluid change and loss of transmission grippage soon after." with this in mind would you call 50k of not having ATF changed high?

91 k Miles and the recall was done in 04.

It is in limp mode now. No reverse and will not change out of gear. Also the gerar indicator is flashing. Dropping it off at 8:30am tomorrow. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

well if its not a covered vin 03- its a sure case for goodwill coverage if the dealer did the work

Acura pays for the tow- dont drive it in limp mode- thats just to get off the freeway

Call and speak with the service manager - describe that its in limp mode-trans failed and ask them to send the tow truck

Note: Monday morning is often the shop meeting in the morning and nothing gets done till after 10:30,,manager is busy with the meeting etc

If you have 50k miles on a trans now is a good time to start taking care of it
See my post above about the acura 3x3

Here is the final result. The tranny is bad, and it is not covered under the extended warranty, but I requested that the service advisor contact Acura about a good will warranty claim.

I was then given a 09 tl as a loaner and he said he would call me back as soon as he had more info. Well about 4 this afternoon he called and asked if I would accept a 90/10 split.

So I informed him that I would be very happy to pay 10% to get a replacement tranny. I should get my car back by Thursday, Friday at the latest.

If it was not for this board I would never have known about deals like this and would have simply paid up. Thanks for all the help.

with that 10 percent you should also get or be able to buy for $300 a 3/36 trans warranty- get it

I would still talk to the service manager- since they did the fluid change and now failure- definite connection
They need to know to stop doing that at higher miles, or kick in to your 10 percent
