missfiring

My car I think is missfiring when I start it and also when I'am driving. The car vibrates or hesitates/ acts like its going to cut out. I changed the spark plugs less than a year ago so I dont think thats the problem.

ANY SUGESTIONS OR IDEAS ??

check your coil packs. you can buy one to test them all out. just pull them out one at a time from each cylinder while the car is running. if the rpm changes when you remove the coil pack then those cylinders are fine, if nothing happens then those ones are bad. it can be one or two its usually one. the cylinders are numbered from 1-2-3 from rear passenger side to driver and 4-5-6 front passenger to driver side. hope that helps.

Did you use the good "oem" NGK plugs or cheapos ? .... How many miles are on the car at the present time ? Is the car's CEL on.....? If so, have the codes checked.

By the way that you described the way that the motor is acting, it appears as though Mugenspire's advice to look for a bad coil pack would be a good place to start. As our cars age with 10 yrs / 100 k on the dial, things start to wear. The coils are about $50 a pop. A very quick and easy check to perform one at a time.

start with a trip to any parts store for a free code scanning/reading

if there are codes for multi cyl misfire you probably need 1 coil
If no codes its not a coil

spark plugs- as said above,,CORRECT NGK 8 dollars each?
if not pull one and inspect--likely problem there as other plugs wont work in the TL
coils can be damaged internally if set down hard on bench during plug change

Guessing you are well past 100kmiles and never cleaned the `egr port and passage of the intake manifold`? that will cause slower start, idle roughness, miss feeling and low power
easy diy 3 cans carb cleaner and a wire coat hanger (no kidding)

Start with a parts store for the FREE code scan (except Ca.)
save time spent guessing

Im having the same issue. I also believe its the ignition coils. Codes read misfiring multiple cylinders. I have NGKs in, did a tune up 4 months ago. The car is currently at a friend's shop, getting fixed. Ill update as soon as the car is fixed.

Hey 00RubieTL, Good luck....it's good to have a friend at the shop, otherwise you could get royally hosed, ha...hah ! Multiple misfires are usually just one bad coil, as the codes for the other's just go off due to the erratic running at the time. Ahh...oh...ah !

its possible to damage the coil internally during plug change as they are fragile inside
just setting it down on workbench can disrupt it
then a few months later it quits working

Only replace coil packs if needed. They either work or don't work no grey area for those. Replacing them and it's not bad is a waste.

I totally agree. "If its not broken, dont fix it."
