2001 acura cl type s idle and missfire issues

my car is auto and has 116k miles on it.

the problem is that when im driving my car and turn it off for awhile then come back and start it to drive somewhere else like an hour or less. when i start it the car idles real jumpy. and it sounds like the car is missfiring(almost like its sputtering). this only lasts for a couple minutes and then it runs great. if i do a cold start it starts perfectly 9 times out of 10.

i took it to a auto body shop and they scanned the computer and it says that cylinders 1,2,4 and 5 are missfiring. they told me it could be that my car needs new plugs and wires or that oil is leaking into the coil packs or some other things that i cant remember.

i saw on some other forums that some people where having jumpy idle issues and that replacing the IAC valve fixed it, maybe it could be that but i dont think that explains why the car is missfiring.

anyone have any clue as to what it could possibly be? this has been going on for about 2 months now

Yeah, at 116k you're about due for some spark plugs and they're pretty pricey cause you have to get dealer NGK's. This fixes the majority of misfires on these cars. If it still idles rough after replacing the spark plugs, then look into IAC valve getting stuck or EGR ports may be clogged. But, start with the spark plugs

I agree you should start with the plugs if theywere not done during your 90k major service. They are good for about 90k miles. I can ship you a set USPS mail they take about three days to get to you. They are also pregaped the cost would be 84.00 shipped . PM me if intrested . Thanks Larry

I recommend Acura OEM spark plugs. I've seen too many misfires come back due to a lesser quality spark plug. I know they're a little pricey, but trust me, they're worth it.

I have 2001 TL Type S with 77K. I want to a tune up, dealer quote $699 for changing timing belt & water pump. I ask to change spark plugs, he wants $309.00 It that too high - I saw NKG spark plugs for $12.99 at auto zone - Not sure what he is quoting so much - does anybody have experience with changing spark plugs at the dealer?

Well, to start, I think $699 is really cheap for timing belt and water pump. I think most dealers would be closer to $1100-1200. I think dealer spark plugs go for like $18-19 each so multiply by 6 and you get close to $115 plus an hour of labor which most dealers are around $100/hr plus tax. So, I estimate $230-240.ish for spark plugs replace

2001 cl type S misfire issue

I pulled two coils trying to find the misfire issue I was having and both had oil on them. Is this common or do I have a valve issue?
