low RPM hesitation

Oh this sucks, someone please tell me, ok SOMETIMES not all the times under a load (in gear) it doesnt matter what gear its in if I keep it at a steady 1800 RPMs it starts acting like im running out of fuel, jumping back and forth. Not huge but you can feel the car moving back and forth as the hesitation starts. One time when it was doing it a little worse than most times I gave it gas to clear it out like always but this time it fell on its ass. I put 93 octane in it all the time, can it be the injectors? I also run some throttle body cleaner sometimes through it. What can it be?

this happened to me and it turned out my tranny was toast, although that doesn't necessarily mean you are in the same boat.

i would run some injector cleaner, or just seafoam the engine. it's possible it's a problem with your throttle position sensor, or whatever the honda equivalent is (i'm more used to ford nomenclature). don't despair just yet.

whats your mileage at? are your plugs new? any codes?

I have almost 107,000 miles. The plugs are fairly new, I replaced them at 95,000. And the only codes im getting is exaust codes (emissions) due to my gut out cat. When its doing it and I keep it there steady and let it hesitate as soon as I hit the gas more it bogs down and then jumps up on the throttle. Im thinking maybe the throttle position sensor. When I usually use intake cleaner I have the car running while im spraying it in the intake and giving it gas so it doesnt bog down. Last time I sprayed the intake cleaner in while the car was shut off letting it sit in there for a few minutes, and then turning the car on and clearing it out. I guess I can say that was the last thing I did before this hesitation. I dont know if that had something to do with it?

well i wouldn't recommend doing it without the car running, but i don't know if that is your issue here.

i had the same symptoms, as mentioned before. you can test the tps with a dvm for dead spots, but you may want to bring the car to acura if you think you can reproduce it for them.

it could potentially be a bad coilpack misfiring under load, although its unlikely since you aren't getting any codes.

could also be due to the gutted cat and the codes its throwing causing the ECU to not like what its seeing.

Just because you think the car was running right doesnt mean it was. CELs arent just dummy lights. If the ECU is working double time to try to compensate for not having the cat there it could be throwing it into a rich or lean mode alot which wouldnt be good for the motor. You could be burning plugs up or fouling them out or even worse burning holes in your pistons! At least get a emulator to trick the ECU into running correctly

Where do you get the emulator? I saw the plans to make one in another thread. Is this what you are talking about or is one available to buy for the rear O2 sensor? I put a RT cat on my 99 TL, the CEL cleared for 1500 miles and then came back with code P0420.

it may be your rear o2 is shot. You shouldnt need a emulator with the RT cat. Did you get the extension for the wire?

I did not need an extension... I had plenty of length on my wire. The O2 probe was by the back flange of the cat in a similar place as the old one. I'm not getting a O2 probe code just the P0420.

Fsttyms1 - I have a 99TL, should I have had to have an extension? If not what are my next steps? Thanks.

SatinSilverTypS may have the answer. We have an 03 TLS. It had the same symptoms 1800rpm. Problem was transmission related This transmission only had about 20K on it. Acura replaced the transmission. Problem solved. This is our third Transmission.

Similiar problem with mine...but in this case...i completely removed the intake system..throttle body etc. and cleaned everything out. it took a little while but it definitely cured the problem and my throttle response is crazy nice!!!
