Issue with front caliper or disc?
Issue with front caliper or disc?
Hi All,
I have an issue with my '99 TL. When I hit the brakes (regular pressure) the car pulls to the right and I can feel pulsating on the pedal, from what seems the left disc. After sitting on the brakes for about 2-3 seconds, I feel some extra braking power and the car no longer pullls (although the pulsating remains). It seems like the left brake takes some extra time to engage and during that time the car pulls. Anyone familiar with this problem? Is it because my disc is warped, or my caliper defective?
Thanks
Itch

funny, just changed my pads and had the rotors re-surfaced. Obviously had the calipers off, but break line on, so not sure I need to bleed. Haven't chaged fluid since I bought the car 18 months ago, but the fluid in the reservoir is totally clean. Maybe the hack that did my rotors fu..ed them up!! Think I'll pull the wheel and take a look at the caliper.
Thanks guys

On my 01- the fluid had never been changed- something the book calls for starting at 3 years and every year after that
When pushing the caliper piston in- if there is gunk on the rubber seal- that can get inside the seal edge and soon after the caliper either sticks or fails in some way
If the fluid was really bad it can backwash rust particles that were sitting in the bottem of the caliper- they work their magic and caliper seal fails- you choose
The are not too $$$ at zone
Pushing the piston all the way in is also not healthy, same goes for letting the brake pads get really low on material- that strains the calipers- they have a limited push-pull range
I suggest flushing the brake fluid BEFORE any brake job to be safe- and then once a year after that
Valvoline Synthetic is good and 1 qt at 6$ is all that you need

I would try to rebleed the brakes. Also check that the piston on the caliper is working and not hanging up. it should slide in smooth and without alot of pressure. With the age of the car its possible that the caliper may be going bad.

Update...Problem just got worse since last post. Got a humming and ticking noise from front left wheel. Brought it in and they replaced the wheel bearing, got alignment done and drives like new!!
Am wondering if wheel bearings fail over time, or might there have been another problem that caused it to fail? Car has 170'000 kms on it.

My TL-P 02 got a humming noice when over 70km/h too and bring the car in to Acura ..they replaced the driver' side bearing ..and it cost 259 Can$ + tax for the job
...
Worst thing is while removing the bearing they f&^% up my low b-joint and make me pay for the new one ...
