Installing rearview dimming mirror

hi, so i just bought a new rearview auto dim mirror to replace on my 99' tl. how would i go about detaching the old one? or is it glued on with something like loctite and that i would need to pull it off and reglue the new mirror on?

wow sorry if i sound like a total noob. the only thing i ever replaced on my car is the windshield wipers. the rearview mirror would cost me $190 (labor/parts) at a local autoshop. i don't feel like paying that much, so i'm going to do it myself hopefully with the help of you guys

First, be very careful. If you're not careful you can crack your windshield. And that will ruin your day.

Several forum members have had this happen.

See the "Rear View Mirror exploded!" thread for photos and "how-to-install" instructions:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/rear-view-mirror-exploded-549093/

The thread is pretty massive so you'll probably have to search a bit to find the right page.

whoa thx a lot for the thread link. after reading some of the posts i've decided to just bring it into a autoshop that specializes in windshield/mirror installations. i already have the mirror so i'll just have to pay for labor which i doubt will cost a lot, and while i'm there i'll have my winds tinted.
