Auto Lock Doors - How to?

I want to be able to make the doors lock automatically when the car is not in Park Status...what's the best way to do this?

I am thinking somehow wiring the lock button on the driver door panel to the wire that sends the signal from the shifter to the cluster panel or somewhere near the cluster panel close to the door, so that whenever the car is taken out of park position and put into any other gears (Drive, Reverse, etc) then the doors can be locked automatically.

Anything from previous experience would be helpful from anyone.
