Installed New HID, but now colour difference

Hi,

I recently replaced my driver-side headlamp with a Phillips 4100k D2R. Apparently, this is suppose to be a replacement to the Osram 4100k that comes OEM.

But here's the problem, I noticed that the new Phillips bulb is whiter than the old bulb, which is kinda purplish compared to the new one.

My question is: Overtime, after the burn-in of the new bulb, will the bulbs look the same colour-wise? OR will they never look the same, and I have to shell out some cash to get another Phillips to replace the still-functioning passenger side.

Thanks.

I think you'll have to buy another Philips bulb. It's typically recommended that the HID bulbs be replaced in pairs for color matching.

If the bulbs change color at a similar rate there's probably no chance that the new Philips bulb will every catch up to the Osram.

But it won't be a total waste since you can hang on to the Osram bulb as an emergency backup in the event one of the Philips bulbs fails completely down the road.

They will never look the same. You should always replace bulbs in pairs.

HID bulbs go through a colour shift as they age. They tend to move a little higher in Kelvin, which is why the old bulb looks more purplish. I've heard that the new bulbs tend to go through this colour shift after 100 hours of usage.

I had the same problem. New passenger side bulb and original driver's side bulb. I ended up buying a Philips 4300K bulb off of eBay, replaced the original bulb in the driver's side headlamp, and now the colours match exactly. The different colours really bothered me, so it was worth the $40 to me.

I hope that price was for a pair of bulbs! Should be around $69 a pair for the Philips, at least that's what mine cost.
