Ignition switch replacement - was this 'common'?

Hi all - not a help needed thread, but just out of curiosity.

I recently replaced my ign sw. Not the lock cylinder, immobilizer part, just the actual switch contacts. Cheap, relatively easy. Was getting random no-start conditions. Looked at all the other obvious conditions, especially ground cables with the recent trans replacement. All good. Honda buddy took a look at it, and asked me to start the car. Sitting in the pass seat, he 'jiggled' the key without rotating it and the car died. Tried to restart - nothing. Some more key manipulations and started just fine. Been starting just fine since the replacement. The key turn was very sloppy/soft/loosey goosey before replacement. Inside the white switch hub were dirt and what looked like powdered metal/solder debris. Maybe a PO shot some kind of lube in it before..? Very crisp and indexed now.

Curious to know if this was 'common' among Acura (Honda) models. Learning a lot from y'all, and most appreciated. Rumor in W WA there's going to be some sun on display today, so time to take the Miata off the battery tender.
