is it my ignition gone bad i need help please!!

i have an acura tl 1996 and this mourning my car started fine. i went to school and as i came back to start my car and turn on my ignition to crank, my car started and once i let go of the key thats inside of the ignition, the power dies. my headlights work fine if i switch it on whether i turn the ignition on or off to start my car. i didnt want to pay for tow so i turn the key in ignition where it started and held the key in position while it is turned where the car wont die n drove home. it was dangerous because if i let go of the key then my car will automatically die. is it my ignition?
my car cranks up fine so i no its not the starter or the alternator and battery.

I need to change my electrical side of the ignition switch...am in the hunt for the switch, it is not a counter item, it needs to be ordered from the manufacturer.

The igntion switch assy should be available from local auto parts stores. On RockAuto its "Starter Switch" under "Electrical Switch & Relay". Look on youtube for honda/acura ignition switch replacements. Lots of videos. Very easy DiY.

good luck

TexasHonda thanks a lot. I picked up an aftermarket from Amazon, waiting to get it.

I could not however replicate and confirm if it is the switch issue by following the DIY that tests the switch.

Soon as I get the SW I will replace the current one.
