problem with ignition switch
problem with ignition switch
hello everyone, I have just replaced my car battery and I started having problems with the ignition switch the key it self sometime feels like it gets stuck either to take it out or to turn on, does one have to do with the other.
is it a 99?
those have an ignition switch recall that acura will perform once- then you are on your own to diy replace after that
easy job, details in the diy section cost ~35 bucks? for the electrical back part that wears out
diy list: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/
unless you need a whole switch,, due to carrying 50 keys on the key ring
you can register with acura customer care- online version
http://owners.acura.com/registration...erstepone.aspx
ck in the `recall` section for the switch - if it says OPEN it has not been fixed
or contact the service dept at your dealer and give them the cars VIN number to ck for recalls..many are open saturday to get an answer and proceed with repairs
does it ever shut off while driving? especially in cornering then comes back on?
thats the big ig swtch symptom
best of luck!!

Hi fcontr89148 :
I have been through the ignition switch issue. There are two completely separate parts to this problem, the mechanical interlock and electrical switch.
The recall is related to the mechanical interlock portion only and solves the key turning while the transmission is out of park. The electrical switch failure will cause the car to stall while driving or the key to turn without engaging the starter. You also might see wisps of smoke coming out of the steering column.
It sounds like you have neither of these issue but, are having a problem with the key tumblers themselves. You might want to squirt some WD40 into the key slot and work the key back and forth. Don't put in too much as it might interfere with the electrical switch's contacts attached to the back of the tumblers.
Good luck with this !
