If you don't see any coolant leaks from it, the heater core is find. Don't need to replace it.
Usually if you don't have any heat, is causing by the vacum door which control (inside the dash) from cold to hot.
The best bet just take the car to a mechanic.
Cuz they might have to take the dash apart.

Good luck...

Could also be a thermostat that is messed up ... go to mechanic to diagnose. Too many variables that climate control uses to regulate car interior temperature.

if your motor (temp gauge) goes to the normal position its either the water control valve, mix motor or heater core plugged. Odds are its the water control valve.

OH MY GOD, do not let anyone take apart the dash just yet. Mine did the same exact thing, coming to find out it was only the little pully up against the firewall. When you turn it on heat theres this little pully that retracts back and forth and all it does is get stuck sometimes. You have to manually move it with your hand to free it up.

its almost up against the firewall towards the passenger side. It has like a steel wire controling it.
