I got "syrupped"

I drive a 2002 TL. I hear rumors that my son's friend whom I've pissed off poured about a couple liters of maple syrup in my gas tank. My mechanic is about 40 miles away from my house. I'm worried if I drive to my mechanic to get the syrup removed that my car will be totaled beyond repair by the time I get there. The mechanic is also closed this week for repairs leaving me with 3 questions.
1. Is the whole syrup thing a myth? Can I just ignore the problem?
2. I haven't driven the car since I heard the rumors, is there a good way for me to remove all the syrup?
3. How long can I drive my car before it is destroyed, can I make it to the mechanic?
4. Would it be okay to drive my car this week and take it to the mechanic next week?

Thank you for you're advice. Any of the questions that you can answer would be helpful, but please only answer one's that you absolutely know the answer to. I already did a quick google search and the answers seemed to erratic to trust. I only made this account to see if someone on this forum would be knowledgeable.

Thank you.

Its false. Sugar/syrup wont harm or blow up the motor. At the most it will plug the fuel filter or injectors. How much gas did you have in your tank? I would recommend a good fuel injector cleaner like Seafoam added to the tank. I would also call the cops on the kid and teach him a lesson.

how was the locking gas door opened, was it broken? worst case you can siphon out the tank dry, and though in a can or two of seafoam with gas.

I've read that sugar wont hurt the engine simply because it will not dissolve. The sugar in syrup is already dissolved. Are you sure that the sugar is still harmless? I had maybe a gallon or two tops in my tank.

and to the guy who posted after you, he's my son's friend and I just leave the keys on my dresser. I'll stop doing that, but thats probably how he got em

call the cops! agree with gold 2003tl. or drop the tank bottle up the old fuel, clean and put it back. not sure what itll do in the motor or injectors. i wouldnt think the filter would stop it

open the fuel door and inspect for residue- no way they poured anything like maple syrup in and kept it clean
most likely nothing got put in there--just messing with you as punk kids do--
all talk--
or are they really stupid enough to admit to a major crime?
acura would say remove gas tank for cleaning and resealing- replace all 6 injectors and 6 spark plugs- system flush--$1500-2500 easy,,this is not petty theft
felony vandalism plus a charge for endangerment by messing with a car

Buy a small 40$ safe at harbor freight tools for you keys and wallet

if unsure about it: fill tank to just under half and add 1 can seafoam to fuel

crud of all types will dissolve and be moved thru the system
stop believing movies!!

My son's friend is like six. He didn't know how serious it was was he was doing, and being from VT, most households have several big bottles of syrups, were serious about it here. I told his parents, but more importantly, I need to figure out what to do. Does anyone know the answer to my questions?

Syrup is probably denser than the gasoline. Gas is a mostly nonpolar hydrocarbon chain. The syrup isn't going to dissolve in that. Thus, it just sank to the bottom. Test it in a cup if you want.

Idk how the gasoline tank system works, but there's a chance that it's already been globbed up somewhere.

the TL has a floating fuel pickup with a filter sock over its inlet
that keeps it from sucking anything off the bottem of the tank,,water sinks for example- fuel weighs ~6.6lbs per gal, water weighs 8,,settles to the bottem

we already told you what to do, but to be even clearer:
go to a parts store or walmart and purchase 1 or 2, 16 ounce cans of Seafoam in the fuel cleaner section of the shelf,,under 10 bucks each,, max price
white can red lettering

Add that to the gas, fill the tank to just under half,,8 gal in tank (17.3 max)
so its 2 oz per gal ratio cleaner to fuel- thats the super cleaning doseage

that stuff liquifies carbon and more things than you can believe--syrup wont be much of a demand on its ability
It will clean the tank- filter sock- pump, fuel lines-regulator-spider harness-injectors- back and stem of intake valves, and piston top
from there it cleans the O2 sensors and the cat!!!

beside getting your prob solved it works as a good tune-up in a can

I took you're advice to test it myself. I syrupped his mom's car since it doesnt have a locking gas tank. If her car doesn't break, I'm good.

Thanks guys.

Really? I hope this is all one big april fools joke. I find it hard to believe a 6 year old kid would be able to grab your keys, open your car door, pull the latch to open the gas lid, actually OPEN the gas lid (how much strength does a 6 year old have?), and then pour syrup in your tank, all without anyone noticing.

Now you tell us that you took revenge on a 6 year old kid by putting syrup in his mom's car.

I think azine got punk'd. If not you are a major asshole.

Well, I was wondering why 6-year-olds would do such a thing. I guess now I know. :shakehead

Acura/honda fuel pumps pick up from the bottom of the tank, just like any other car. No floating pickup, just a float for the fuel sender.
