Cel and tcs light

New to this site.... I recently bought a 2000 TL from a private party car has 122,000 miles. I just replaced the tranny and when i got it back i drove it for a few days and cel and tcs light came on. shut the car off and tcs light went away but cel stayed scanned it for codes and came back with cylinder misfire 1-6 the spark plugs are new and the coil packs all work.Checked my egr valve and its good. What is the deal with this any ideas????

whats the code? you may need to clean your intake manifold/ egr port hole, as I just had to do, easy job after I was told how to do it.

codes were P0301-P0306 The car shows no signs of misfire kinda weird. When i erase and clear the codes i will drive the car a few days and put about 100 miles on it and the lights come back and same codes very annoying. So you recommend taking the intake manifold off and giving it a deep clean with the wire coat hanger to clear the passage ways and ports holes?

Running Ngk Iridium. Used a spark tester. all coil packs are generating enough voltage to fire the plug.

its a good bet the last owner never cleaned the egr port system,,so it wont hurt to do

cant say its going to fix this problem,,but needed in general for good running
Codes are clues- not diagnosis in themself,,,, and often misleading--
if it idles perfect smooth--??? (scratching head)

treat the coils like fine china--even setting them down hard can damage internals.
heard of more coil failures after plug change than any other time~

dont go crazy things jumping yet,,its probably something small

as the other ziner said- cleaning the egr system fixed his similar sounding problem
those lights can mean many things.
Start there and then we have a clean baseline
the egr is closed/off at idle,,so could fool you

reset the ECU if trying to generate codes again,,pull clock fuse -passenger end of dash and reinsert- to clear all codes and force a master system test and relearn

ok after putting close to 500 miles on the new trans i installed ive gotten the blinking cel + tcs light 3 times. first time i got it was when i drove the car hard for the first. i stop turned the car off and start it back up and everything was normal again. then 4 days after that im driving normal on a flat straight highway doing 60 come to a stop it happens again, blinking D5 + tcs light. now this morning the temps dipped way down to 15 and it came back after i came to a stop n go light. its always after the car stops that the lights go on. seems as if the trans is having a hard time downshifting. anyone else ever experience this? ill take it to have the codes read asap

damn it did again once tonight. im thinking its a loose connector or sumthing like that.

01tl, its not a rebuildt, its a low mileage AV6 trans.

PS. i didnt get the codes cleared with a scan tool after i replaced the trans. could this be causing it?

you can clear the codes by pulling the CLOCK fuse on passenger end of dash for a minute
thats the secret backup power to the ecu and forces a master reset/relearn

yes you need to clear them to see what actually happening now

ck all connectors- pins get loose or corroded, ground wires etc,,always a good things to ck after custom install

kk quick update guys. i got the codes read today and i got errors for

EGR insufficient flow

Random misfire

and ATF low. (this i take it is from when i just got the car back together it took awhike to get all the ATF circulated so there were sum air pockets. the ATF has always been at the full level. i reset the ecu in the packing lot, drove home and still no CEL)

01tl thanks for the info on that backup fuse. very useful

also reset my SRS and changed my taillight bulb. my dash no longer looks like a xmas tree

the atf doesnt have pockets to burp- it didnt have enough when you were done~

misfire- ground wire, bad coil

If the SRS comes on after electrical system work- reset it
If it comes back on again, see dealer for 10/150 warranty on srs

ck owner manual for vehicle trans came from- for its level testing.
the TL is 15 minutes freeway and stop- engine off- level `between` the upper dots

your new one may differ in method and reading expected
standard tl holds 7.3 qts atf total

have you done the egr system clean yet--remove intake manifold-3 cans carb cleaner- wire poking rod method
that plugs up approx 75kmiles --will run longer and get worse... until someone figures it out
