How to fix power steering pump noise?

Hi, my 99 3.2tl has problems with power steering pump. I started the car this morning. The p.s.p sounded weird and the fluid came out from the p;s. reservoir; as I turned the steering wheel with the engine running, the noise getting louder and quiet down as the wheel released.

Last night, I tried to check the condition of the timing belt by taking off the cover on the cam shaft gear. But one of the bolts on the cover wouldn't be able to come out because part of the p.s.p was in the way (bad design). I used a locking plier puller to pull out the bolt... Apparently there is no damage to the hoses or the pump.

Thanks.

Mine did the same thing. There is an O ring where the hose attaches to the pump. I accidentally bumped the hose and it started sucking air into the system and it foamed and overflowed out of the fluid reservoir. Get a replacement o-ring and try that fix first.

I think you are right. I had the same problem. The oil inlet hose to the PS pump has an o-ring in the tube and it has to seal perfectly or air will enter and cause loud aeration. I think this is a weakness in the Acura, because it is too easy to introduce air. It should be sealed better. The o-ring is subjected to high heat for a long time, and gets brittle. Any slight jarring of the pipe can cause noise. It's the second thing to check when you get cavitation. The first is fluid level.

power steering pump is easy to replace if you absolutely must have to, i just changed mine last week (including high pressure hose on my 2000 tl; this one was really hard though). as for the oring, i went to honda and bought both power steering orings for about 6 bucks total. so far its been running great.

Check the inlet hose too. they crack with age and allow air into the pump.

Once you fix the issue, the pump should return to it's old, quiet (or nearly so) self.
