Hot air or Cold air....no in between??

Help...I have searched this for several days but have not found a definitive answer for my problem...I have a 2003 Acura TL...I can only get very cold air at 60 or very hot air at 90...I have checked the engine bay and the valve will only move to fully open or fully closed...I have looked under the glove box and it would appear all the little parts move as they should...from reading, someone mentioned a heat control mixer is the problem...Is this so? How do I check to make sure thats it? How do I repair it? I know that I can just turn it to 90 and then back it down but my wife drives this car and I would prefer to get it working normal again...Thanks for the help!

Do the self-diagnosis function to confirm the problem.
1. Turn ignition to ON(II) position.
2. On your climate control buttons, press and hold the AUTO and OFF buttons at the same time, and hold for one minute.

If there is a problem, one of the segments on the temperature readout numbers will illuminate, alternating flashing between '88' and one of the segments. Report back here with which segment, and someone can lookup the code. The bottom segment on the left side would indicate a problem with the air mix control linkage, door, or motor.

I have the same problem in my 99 TL...I can only get very cold air at 60 or very hot air at 90 no in between. I also have a problem that may be related...when I turn on the front defroster I get air but not from the windshield vents. As a matter of fact, the blower will not engage any vents except for the dash vents. No defrost, no floor air...nada! It may be related. Any Ideas on what I should be looking for? I checked the fuses and they all seem to be ok...not fried.

Thanks for the help and the responses. I did the test...so the dash blinked 88...the mark was made in the first of the two eights...it was the lower right vertical line of the first eight...Does anyone know what this means? Thanks again!

try a google search for codes, or a search with any engine using:
climate control codes + TL+ acurazine.com

It is indeed 'I', which is: open in the air mix control motor circuit. Sounds like you need to replace your control motor.

Do the same self-diagnostic test, and see if you get any indicator segments coming up.

Ok, I did the test...so the dash blinked 88...the mark was made in the first of the two eights...it was the middle vertical line of the first eight...Does anyone know what this means or where I can find the codes.

Do you mean the middle horizontal line? There's not a middle vertical line. Remember, think of the horizon when you think horizontal - side-to-side, not up-and-down.

Here's a link to an online parts supplier (actually a dealership that sells online at lower prices).
http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...s=&view=normal

Brad, you need #6.
MrLee, you need #5 (I would think).
Both are $100 each.
