HELP! RPM/MPH gauge tach skips!

I have an 02 TL with about 95k miles. Just picked it up used about 2 weeks ago from a dealer. The car is perfectly fine, good condition, everything works well until I noticed the RPM tach freezes and jumps when I was freeway cruising.

For example, I would notice the RPM tach would stay at 2k RPM even if I am softly accelerating and suddenly jump up to 2.5k then 3k RPM. After 3k RPM, it rises smoothly.

I asked a few of my car friends and they all replied the same way saying the odometer had been adjusted...

Need your input if that is the case or just a technical issue with the gauge.

Thanks!

if we had old type guages they may be right
but its all electronic now

first thing is get the battery tested- low voltage will trick sensors into false codes!
Have the parts store do that and a free code reading to see if any clues there

could be a loose ground wire or bad wire

any work done on the car before you bought it that the dealer admitted to?
