Most common problem is the heating element in the seat has a broken wire.

Unfortunately the only way to fix it is to remove the seat cushion and resolder the broken wire.

In my case the passenger seat on my 2000 TL stopped working some time ago and it is starting to get cold.

My wife is from Florida. Need I say more?

Do I only need to buy just the element itself from heatedseatkits.com, or do I need to buy some other components to try and integrate it into the Acura? I want to be able to use the existing switches and have everything look and operate as original.

I wish there was a DIY or some pictures of the passenger side opened up. I don't want to tear the seat out and discover I have a different problem than the folks who've mended the wire on their driver's side.

My switch lights still come on and the driver's side works fine so I'm pretty sure the problem is with the element on the passenger seat bottom. It has the side airbag so there is no passenger seat back element.

It should be just like the drivers side. Take he cover off and look.

Use an ohm meter to verify the element is open if it's not obvious once you get the cover off.

Which one should I get? They have a couple of 12V models.

Does anybody know the dimensions of the stock heating element pad?

Thank you very much for posting.. I saw this first thing this morning. Decided to go in a fix my driver seat that has not worked for 5 years!! Very strait forward.. The bad area was very clearly burnt.. I cut out the bad area, soldered in a new wire, and put it back together. HOT AS FIRE NOW!!!! Oh yea!!! Tips for others= just cut all the hog rings with diagonal pliers, during reassemble just use zipties... you will need about 20+ zipties. If you dont feel comfortable with nylon zipties then use safetywire which will also work great. Just dont waste any of your time with those hog rings! Total time including cleaning up and vacuuming underneath where you can never get to should take approx 2 hours.

do you need to disable the airbags first? before pulling the seat read a little on alldata and they say to disable the system first.

For the airbags, you only need to disconnect the wiring for the seat. No need to disable the entire system.
If you start the car with the wiring disconnected, you will have to reset the SRS light.

Nobody answered my question about which element to get from heatedseatkits.com

I tried contacting them several times before I finally got an answer. They were nice, but apparently a bit overwhelmed. They told me to get the H3 kit. I also paid $20 for their install kit which apparently includes hog ring pliers, a few hog rings, a couple of zip ties, a fuse or two and some connectors.

There was no order confirmation so hopefully they got the order and will ship it. I paid $120 including the install kit.

I like the idea of having a carbon fiber element. I don't want to do this repair more than once. I also don't solder.

Hopefully it won't be too involved to get this element wired in with the existing switch. I doubt the connector will be the same so I figure I'll need to cut off the connector that comes with the new element and splice on the one that was on my old copper element.

From what I gather, the kit comes with two elements, one for the butt and one for the back. I think one of these has 2 leads and the other 4.

Sorry- didn't see your question. I believe that's the one I ordered too (been a while). I used the new element in the seat back & repaired the one in the seat bottom. Wasn't sure how to connect the bottom element (there's a thermost. & breaker in it). The connectors are different so I cut off the factory conn. to the seat back element and reused it (you really should solder this).
