Headlight out, ballast or igniter?

Ok so tonight my driverside headlight wouldent turn on. I thought last night I saw it flicker on the way home. I swapped bulbs and there both good. So that leaves me with the igniter and the ballast. Did some searching and didnt find any real way to determine which of the 2 it is. Any help here guys would be greatly apreciated

im not exactly sure how the 02/03 models are, but on the 99 the igniter is seperate. If its the same you can just swap the igniters to see

from my experience it is probably the ballast, it is rare that the ignitor will go out.

well if your talking about that the igniter is separate piece it is....it plugs into the top of the ballast.....i'm pretty sure that every hid factory system is like this....your going to have to remove the headlight to get to it.........

I think I'm having the same problem. Last month my driver's side bulb went out. It did the purple pink thing and finally burned out. So I replaced both bulbs. Problem was solved. Now I turn on my light this morning and my passenger side light won't come on at all! UGH!!! These damn headlights are starting to get on my nerves! I did manage to get it to turned on after turning the switch off and on about 5 times.

Exact same issue I had. I'm replacing both headlight assemblies because the screw hole for the metal clip is stripped so I think the bulb may have come loose and bounced around.

It was fun on the highway though...the one working light would randomly shut off and I had to turn the headlights off/on to get it to come back. People must have thought I was nuts

I'm really really hoping that this is the case since it was working fine until after the bulb was replaced.

I wanted to start flipping on and off my lights this morning, but I think people would have though I was nuts too!

I think I'll go into cardiac arrest if the balast is bad!

Exclamation I need a HID bulb....i think....

I have blown my bulb (passenger side) and need help finding replacement bulbs. I do not have my owners manuel, and am unsure of how much they should run for. Should I get it ordered from the local Acura Shop or is there a cheaper website? And should I just get the stock HID bulb or is there a better one out there (for example PIAA, etc..)?

Cool, someone just down the road from me!

I would go with the OE bulbs like Philips. The higher the temperature of the bulb, the less light output you'll get.

If they are OEM ballasts, replace them with quality aftermarket ones like Morimoto from theretrofitsource.com

Replace both the ballast and igniter. They're both old and if you're putting in a new part you may as well replace the ballast and igniter together. Buying them together isn't much more than buying just one of the parts
