What Low beam bulb replacement you recommend?
Driver side low beam bulb went out so I need to buy a pair. I don't want to buy the stock ones. Which bulbs are the next up that I can easily just replace it without going to buy a new HID kit? It's cold out to go the remove the bumper route so I would like to replace them quickly route.
I found a video on how to replace the passenger side which is pretty good.
I need one for the drivers side.

I personally like the morimoto bulbs. There are better ones out there like the CBIs but for the dollar they cant be beat. I buy all my lighting stuff from the retrofit source.

did the bulb have pink or purple tint at startup recently? thats bulb age death
If on the other hand you experienced flicking headlight switch to make lights operate, or light comes on and goes off while driving = you need the new parts kit
HID Kits | Conversion Kits | Xenon Headlights | HIDeXtra will sell the same bulbs used in their kits for cheap - to hopefully get you going for now
BUT
if its more than just a bulb...find a buddy with a semi warm garage

The passenger side works but if I switch it off and then immediately switch it back on. It doesn't work. Either way I would replace both.

you have a ballast/igniter issue
bulbs will not solve the problem

So I have to replace the ballast now. Will this do?
Intense White D2R 6000k HID Light Conversion Kit | HIDeXtra
Or the 5000k?
Now if I want to sell my car in the near future which should I go with?
I found this DIY to replace the HID lights.

get the 5000k color bulbs for closest to stock 4300, and best to actually see things on the road
Will look great when selling car!
don't need any extras from them, just a few connectors at parts store
use code NEWFB for 10% off

What are nice fog lights. I will change those as well since I'm removing the bumper.

stay on 35 watt ballast
the new ballast has male ends already on the wires, you will need to buy a $2 pack of female 14/16 gauge waterproof (has rubber cover over connection) spade connectors
Any parts store will have them,
that's the only thing you have to buy- assuming you own a roll of electrical tape or some shrink wrap tubes for wire.
fogs- you can CONVERT the stock fogs to HID, see their kit for that
3000k color is yellow for use in actual fog, or match the new lows with 5000k
they probably have plain bulbs for the fogs in several colors, not converting to hid- just fresh light
Excellent toll free phone help is available~

wow that's nice!!
I heard today that a local shop has LED low beams, possibly for us, for under 100$ `kit`
Will be looking in to that right away!
LED rocks
what do you think of the light output (lumens) when pointed at the wall, versus the low beams?
I'm not sure what our lows are supposed to be rated at when working correctly~
Anyone know for sure? I know I know- search!

It's pretty good. It gives a much wider range of light. It really helps the one headlight that is only working. Buy my some time before I install the low beams.

I learned last night that over 8000k is illegal by DOT standards
any reason for a cop to bother you = reason not to do it
4300 was stock, 5000 very nice, 6000 very nice but loses a lot of white light on road
What they look like from in front,,, is not what they put on the road!

If you dont want to install a hid kit, there are plenty of other options for halogen bulbs. The Sylvania zxe bulbs are really good for about $60 a pair however the brighter the bulb the shorter its lifespan will be. For the best bang for your buck id go with the Sylvania silverstars about $30 a pair. Best of luck

I know the dealer won't install an aftermarket HID kit unless it's OEM. OEM way to expensive plus their labor. Forget it. But an independent shop will correct, if I get the 5K?

no, thank you! It was something I read on DOT standards for lights
why would one install $50-60 worth of bulbs in the fogs, unless needing low power for actual fog use,
when you can buy aftermarket full kit for the same price?
YES an aftermarket/private shop will happily install the HID kit for you
Ck those car audio shops that do big stereos, have ads in PennySaver,,often install lighting too
a simple HID fog conversion is nothing to them!
Are you sure you wouldn't like some underbody neon and led fender-well lighting too? sir or ma'am?

Don't 2G TL's come with stock HID's... why would anyone suggest installing halogens in your car is blowing my mind...
go to The Retrofit Source Inc and order one of their D2S HID kits. Quality parts and great pricing with amazing customer service/support to boot. You won't be sorry.
And stick to 5000K (6000K max) for the maximum lumens output. Going any higher not only looks stupid, it will decrease luminosity you'll see less... Because you know, they're headlights.. the idea is for you to see things in front of your car.

yes the gen2 TL came stock with HID low beams, with a ballast and igniter system that eventually fails
When that happens- and it will, its way cheaper and better to drop in a `kit` of new parts- still HID, from any of the suggested suppliers on here

Well I install only the bulbs of the HID extra kit. I didn't use the ballast that came with it and they work. What you think? They didn't look much different than the 4300k stocks but are pretty bright enough.

You should not be tied to "expensive" bulbs..
Go to ebay and search for "D2C HID BULB PAIR xxxxK" get the ones ranging from 10 to 15 bucks a pair and suit yourself with any given Kelvin Rating you want to try out. Most of them send free replacements like they were candy if you get a bad pair.
I have literally used every single (useable) rating in my TL.. From 3200K (Fogs) to 10,000K. In my experience: 5000K > 6000K > 8000K are Useable. More than 8K? Nope don't even try them, the hue is too dark and the light blend with the roads giving the sensation there is less light on the read (To be honest after 8000K the lumen output does start to fall-off). Don't be scared with the ones saying 8000K is not useable! IT IS I used it for 3 years straight with no issue what-so-ever, No cop issues either although 8000K is an illegal light color 6K is safer.
My current combo:
6000K Lows
6000K Fogs
5000K Highs

Any success finding a video as good as the passenger side video you posted.
That one was/is great.
Related. Wonder if after 5 years we may as well do the ballast at the same time? I got one from DDM tuning (it's on another thread) about 2010 or 11.

Well now the ballast needs to be replace. I want to go ahead and use the kit system I purchased a couple years ago from HID extra. The mechanic said the connectors are wrong? So I looked back and saw this. This will fix the issue?
BTW - Hid Extra discontinued the D2R kits because of low sales.

I went to the auto parts store and they said he couldn't look for parts for aftermarket lights? I showed him this "the new ballast has male ends already on the wires, you will need to buy a $2 pack of female 14/16 gauge waterproof (has rubber cover over connection) spade connectors"
He directed me to car stereo system store called Electronic Plus.. I'm confused aren't these just regular parts?
What do they look like?

I bought these new low beam bulbs and they are great. Not obnoxiously bright like some people use, when they're too bright they look blue which in my opinion is not appealing. These bulbs are brighter than the factory low beams and i'm very happy with them.
