Has Honda fixed the transmission problem?

Just had my tranny replaced in my 2003 TL. It failed at 92,000 miles. I found this site and it has been very informative, but I'm still unsure from the post I have read if Honda has actually fixed the transmission problem or do I just have a NEW faulty transmission that will fail again?

Thanks in Advance.

The jury is still out. There is some amount of hope that design changes made by Acura in February of 2005 have resolved the major transmission reliability issues.

It might take a year or two to see how well the "new" transmissions are holding up over the long haul.

Consider your car as part of the test group. ;-)

Well considering that its been 2 years since its come out id say we have a fairly decent idea based on your timeline assumption

To answer the original question, we believe they have. There have only been 2 failures since the Feb 05 redesign and those could have been any thing and not a sign. Before that they were dropping like flies. Only time will be the real test, bit so far so good

Is there any reason for VSA to kick in while slowing down? I wasn't even breaking hard at all. It felt like the transmission couldn't make up it's mind to downshift to 2nd or 3rd after getting off a ramp from the highway. I swear I feel like I may never be able to drive without the insecurity.

Btw, I just got a new transmission in my car 2 weeks ago.

Does it do it consistently, is there a check engine light on?? I'd take it back

So far it's only done it once, but that's enough to make me frightened. My trans prior to the new one was pretty bad where it got to the point where the car's wheels were locking up.

I've drivin the car for about 400 miles so far. I was sort of driving fast before this happened but I didn't wot.

Just take it back in, something may be wrong with the unit or the install or the ECU or who knows. The replacement units have their own warranty so call
and ......speak only with the SERVICE MANAGER.....
Tell them the problem and how recently you were in.
Ask for a loaner so they can have it overnight or longer to check it.

My Service Manager gave me his cell number and said if this trans hiccups or
does anything at all, call him directly- bypass service writers.

I know its hard to trust the car because of the failure- sounds like yours went in a dramatic fashion- and after about 1000 miles the new trans gets even smoother and you sit back, hit cruise and enjoy.

Note to all with replacements- keep up on the fluid changes- cheap insurance considering how most of us drive these cars

I agree, I got a newer tranny design update in my car and it's consistently running smooth. I also changed my fluid about 7500K miles after my tranny change and my fluid was still nice and red..no real bad burn smells either...unlike my first tranny!!! So, I have a lot of confidence in my tranny now.

Also around town, I keep it in D4...when I stay above 45mph for a long time, I'll move up to D5..not sure if that helps, but I notice a lot less "unnecessary shifting" by doing that and the tranny seems to be shifting better. I always used to drive in D5 regardless of city or highway driving...
