Groaning noise when steering after backing up

Got a weird problem. After I back out of a parking spot and I turn to pull out I hear a groaning noise and it is difficult to steer. It also "feels" like something is grinding in the steering wheel. Once I get moving though everything feels fine. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong?

This is on a 2000 TL with 123k miles

Much thanks in advance!!

Same things happened to me. I had to change my front lower ball joints.

are you moving while turning the wheel? or stopped then turn it

It needs to see an alignment shop for inspection-diagnosis
could be a few things and none are good to ignore

ps pump??--system flush--hows the fluid look and smell
ever flush ps- thats due every 60kmiles

I am moving very slowly, not exactly dry steering, but enough so I clear out of the parking spot

I guess I'd better get it looked at, although I'm not too keen on spending too much money as we plan on trading it in later this year so that we can get a *gasp* minivan. At least I'll be inheriting a 2005 MDX from the wife

the 2g and 3g Odysseys don't look too bad, especially if lowered some , with a nice set of wheels on it

and imake sure to tell the wife you want to do this to it, since you will probably be keeping it for at least a couple of years

the first thing i would do is check your power steering fluid...if thats ok i would sit with the wheel straight and the car running rev your car up slightly and turn the wheel back and forth if it gets easier your ps pump is on the way out....seen it a lot its a pretty common problem.

As suggested, check your PS fluid level.

ever change the ps fluid? due every 60kmiles iirc
correct level is NEAR the Max mark but not at it--need some splash room for fluid in motion
watch with engine running and you will understand
