Goofy group of engine codes. Any techs or code junkies out there?

Hello all!

I have an '03 TL-S. I have kept up on the service on this car and it currently has 95,XXX on the clock.

Today my wife was waiting to pick up the kids at school, sitting in park idling, and the idle got rough the trouble indicator came on. She nursed it home and left it for me.

I pulled the codes when I got home:

P0300, multiple cylinder misfires
P0302, 304, 305 misfires on cylinders 2, 4 and 5
P1399, random/multiple misfires

and the clincher....

P1739, automatic transaxle....

So, right now the car sound kind of rough but the tach isn't really jumping around. The trouble indicator lamp is on along with traction assist and VCS.

I thought maybe EGR, but then looked up P1739.

I know something failed, car was running fine and then bang multiples misfires on multiple cylinders????

I appreciate any insight ahead of time.

Thanks, Giff

Odds are you have 1 coilpack that failed. These cars throw the multiple misfire even when one fails. You can try unplugging 1 coil at a time. LIsten for the motor to change (it will get rougher when you unplug a working coil) if you dont hear a change odds are that is the bad coil. (id be tempted to start out with #2, then 4, then 5 since those are the codes that came up. After you fix that clear the codes and see what comes back

Another way to eliminate the coilpacks would be to rotate the affected coils to a good cylinder, if the problem is still there it could be compression, wiring to coil packs, or maybe plugs.

compression?? wiring? really?
most likely suspect is as described by fsttyms1- a failed coil pack is causing false codes

you are also due for the egr port and passage cleaning diy- not found in any maitenance schedule
plugs wouldnt hurt, but a failure of 1 would be odd at your mileage

after you find the bad coil ($50) reset the ECU by pulling the CLOCK fuse on passenger end of dash for a minute

DId u get it fixed ? I am having misfire on most of the cylinders as well but car is running perfectly fine i usually get cel when i push the car a lil harder. Right before redline cel starts to flash then multiple misfire on all cylinders and P1399. I already replaced spark plugs and 2 coil packs that i know were bad cleaned EGR i have a battery in the trunk i rechecked and installed new positive wire too. Everything seems to be fine but CEL keeps coming back. My LTFT is off by -5.5%. I do have comptech fuel pump and pressure regulator though.

tried cking the coils the codes think it might be? remove power wire and ck for rpm drop
no drop = bad coil
remember multi misfire codes are often 1 coil
how old are your spark plugs?
stop pushing the car until this is fixed!! --you can cause internal probs in a big way

do you run a cleaner thru fuel-seafoam-bg44? optional thru vac master port at TB
Cleaned the TB throat air plate just for good measure?
on the egr cleanout- all the ports and length of passage= from holes under egr valve to the other end of manifold- were cleared with a wire rod/coat hanger?

I did all of things u said and car is running good. Idle is perfect. Car has its power. If i dont push it there wont be any CEL.

Codes are P0301-P0306, P0300 and P1399
I'm not sure what P1399 stands for (misfire in any cylinder) some of the guys say its EGR the other say its injectors someone else say its o2 sensor. I personaly think it might be valves out of spec because i did valve adjustment myself 10k miles ago but im pretty sure i did it right. I have my bettery in the trunk and last week i ran new positive cable to make sure everything is right. Im gonna check the grounding though. Also i can hear slight taping noise but very quite when engine is warmed up which again leads me to valves. I never overreved the car btw so it the valves should not be bent
